If you have been waiting on Nikon’s next bodies, the wait may get longer. Nikon Rumors says the consensus from multiple sources is blunt: almost everything still in the pipeline is delayed — rumored cameras, lenses, and firmware updates included.
There are no hard new dates. The site’s own July timeline is now described as optimistic, with some products likely sliding into 2027.
What Was Supposedly Next
Nikon Rumors’ July 2026 roadmap had already labeled its dates as estimates. Those windows now look even softer:
- High-end APS-C / rumored Z70-class DX body — previously talked about for around September 2026, possibly with a “mini ZR / mini Z9” brief
- Full-frame interchangeable-lens body without an EVF — photography-oriented, ZR-like in spirit, rumored for late 2026
- Compact full-frame fixed-lens camera — stylish, expensive, no viewfinder; already pointed at March 2027
- Z9II — already placed in 2027, with heavy RED integration rumored
- Lenses: cheaper wide zoom to pair with the Z5 II, a vlogger-oriented 16-35mm-class optic, the Nikkor Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S (development announced), more Z cinema glass around IBC 2026, and an 85mm f/1.4 later
The DX speed camera is the one Camera Egg has already covered via Apple’s brief Nikon Z70 ProRes listing. A slip past fall would fit this broader delay report — though Nikon still has not confirmed the camera at all.
The Official Side of the Story
The rumor lines up with Nikon’s latest numbers. After a weak Q1, the company cut its full-year interchangeable-lens forecasts by 50,000 camera bodies and 50,000 lenses — from 900,000 to 850,000 bodies, and from 1.30 million to 1.25 million lenses. Imaging revenue and operating-profit guidance were also trimmed, with Nikon pointing to weaker demand in China and higher memory costs.
On the product side, calendar 2026 has been unusually quiet. Nikon Rumors notes that Nikon has officially announced no new camera bodies this year and only two finished lenses, plus one development announcement:
- Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II
- Nikkor Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1
- Nikkor Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S (development announcement)
The last new Nikon body was the cinema-focused ZR in 2025. By the site’s count, that makes 2026 one of Nikon’s slowest release years in memory — after 2025’s Z5 II and ZR, 2024’s Z6 III and Z50 II, and 2023’s Z8 and Zf.
2027 Is the New Hope Year
Nikon Rumors says it has been told 2027 will be much better. That matches Nikon’s own recovery language around the next fiscal year, but it is still a rumor, not a launch calendar.
Until Nikon actually ships something, treat the delay report as a temperature check: the rumored DX speed camera, EVF-less full-frame body, compact fixed-lens model, and several Z lenses are all more likely to land later than the July estimates suggested.
