(Updated) Nikon Stopped Production on all Nikon F-mount Cameras & Lenses

Update: According to mynavi.jp, Nikon hasn’t stopped the production on Nikon F-mount products.

According to NR, Nikon seems stopped production on all Nikon F-mount products. This means that once current inventory is sold out, F-mount cameras and lenses will be discontinued indefinitely.

The Nikon F-mount has been around since 1959 and has served as the main Nikon lens mount for over 60 years. It has enjoyed tremendous popularity over the decades and developed an intensely loyal following amongst professional and amateur photographers. However, with the rise of mirrorless cameras in recent years, Nikon has shifted focus to the new Z-mount system.

This marks the end of an era for Nikon as the F-mount retires. Cameras like the popular Nikon D850, D750, and D500 DSLRs will vanish from store shelves. Legendary F-mount lenses such as the 70-200mm f/2.8 and 14-24mm f/2.8 will also fade away in time. Nikon may release special commemorative F-mount products down the road, but for all intents and purposes, F-mount camera and lens production has ceased.

For those still clinging to the familiar F-mount system, now is the time to grab any last lenses or accessories before stock runs dry. Otherwise, the future is mirrorless cameras and lenses built for the Z-mount. While it’s sad to see such an iconic mount retired, the photography world continues to evolve. Nikon shooters will need to eventually embrace this evolution as well.
