Apple’s official Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW Authorized Products page has quietly named a camera Nikon has not announced yet: the Nikon Z70.
The listing places the Z70 alongside Nikon’s existing ProRes-capable bodies — including the Z6III, Z8, Z9, and ZR — under both the ProRes and ProRes RAW product sections. Apple’s page was last updated on July 10, 2026, and the Z70 entry is the clearest public signal yet that a new Nikon Z-series model is already deep into certification.
Why “Z70” Likely Isn’t a Typo
Older Nikon bodies such as the Z7 II only gained ProRes RAW through external recording workflows. A brand-new model name appearing next to current flagships like the Z8, Z9, and ZR is much harder to dismiss as a clerical error — especially when the same “Z70” string shows up in both the ProRes and ProRes RAW sections.
In short: Apple appears to be preparing Final Cut Pro / ProRes workflows for a Nikon camera that is not on store shelves yet.
How This Fits Earlier Nikon Rumors
The timing lines up with July chatter from Nikon Rumors about a forthcoming APS-C (DX) Nikon body. Those reports described a high-speed DX camera that could act as a spiritual successor to the DSLR-era D500 — and possibly as a compact, RED-influenced “mini ZR / mini Z9” hybrid.
Among the rumored talking points:
- Around 45MP stacked DX sensor
- Very high-speed readout, aimed at action and video shooters
- Possible RED technology crossover in a smaller body than the full-frame ZR
- Launch window: within the next few months
At the time, the model name had not been confirmed. Apple’s “Z70” listing is the first major third-party breadcrumb that looks like an official product code rather than forum speculation.
What ProRes RAW Authorization Would Mean
ProRes RAW certification is more than a codec checkbox. For creators, it usually signals Nikon intends the camera to sit in serious hybrid / cinema-adjacent workflows — grading latitude, HDR pipelines, and Final Cut Pro compatibility included.
What we still do not know from Apple’s page alone:
- Whether ProRes RAW will be recorded internally (as on Z8 / Z9 / ZR) or only via an external recorder
- Whether the Z70 is DX or FX
- Pricing, mount accessories, or exact video frame-rate limits
Still, for a camera that has never been officially teased by Nikon, landing on Apple’s authorized list is a strong pre-announcement tell.
Bottom Line
The Nikon Z70 now exists — at least on Apple’s certification paperwork. Combined with recent DX “speed camera” rumors, it looks increasingly likely Nikon is preparing a high-performance APS-C Z body with serious video credentials. We’ll update as soon as Nikon, retailers, or more certification databases fill in the blanks.
