Canon Rumors has posted the fullest EOS R8 Mark II spec sheet yet — still a leak, still aimed at a September 15, 2026 New York announcement. The new list goes well past the IBIS / 24MP / about $1,800 briefing from late August: 7.5 stops of IBIS, no mechanical shutter, 20fps pre-shooting, and a software trick that would build 3D video from 2D footage.
What is actually new on the leak sheet
The 24MP full-frame sensor is still described as the R6 Mark II part, ISO 100–102,400, with a sensor-protective curtain. Dual Pixel AF II, “deep learning AI,” and new animal tracking sit on top. Hardware extras versus the first R8: a rear joystick, the same LP-E17 battery, a single SD slot behind a side door, and a new optional ergonomic grip.
Burst and shutter is where the original R8’s mechanical option reportedly disappears. Canon Rumors lists a 40fps electronic shutter, a 1/16,000 top speed, no mechanical shutter, and pre-shooting at 20fps. IBIS is now given a number: 7.5 stops, not just “it has IBIS.”
Video finally has numbers too: 4K/60p, 6K-oversampled 4K, 1080/180p, Canon Log 3, and a line item Canon Rumors simply calls “warm-up in video recording” with no further explanation. Downloadable color filters and new LUTs are on the same software pile as the 3D-from-2D mode. Canon Rumors does not know how the 3D feature works, but says it may land on other current EOS R bodies by firmware later — it specifically names cameras such as the R5 Mark II and R6 Mark III, not older 5- and 6-series bodies.
Retro is off the table, price is still mushy
The long-running retro R8 Mark II rumor is now walked back. Canon Rumors says it has not been contradicted until recently, and the “dream” looks dead for this launch. In its place: a new design language, better fit and finish, almost the same size and weight as the R8, marketed for travel and daily use.
Money is still a moving target. The same post says under $2,000, possibly as low as $1,799, and also lists €1,879. Shipping is penciled in for October 2026. None of that is an official Canon price or date.
Canon Rumors also notes its latest header render was sent in and is likely AI; the site has not seen the camera. This post uses the current R8 for the same reason.
