Canon EOS R1: 240 FPS?

Wild rumored specifications of Canon EOS R1 was leaked online. It will feature a 30-megapixel sensor capable of continuous shooting at up to 240 frames per second and 6.7K60p recording. The flash sync speed is said to be 1/1250 seconds, although it is not as fast as Sony A9 III.

The Weibo post is as follows.

  • Fast AF and exposure with AI
  •  Motion trajectory prediction, smart object lock focus tracking with high success rate
  •  30 million pixel stacked dual core focus sensor
  •  Pure electronic rolling shutter faster than any mechanical shutter
  •  Flash sync speed is 1/1250 seconds
  •  Added 1:3 lossless compression CRAW compared to lossless compression
    – Unlimited 40 frames per second burst (1:2 CRAW) and 60 frames per second (1:3 CRAW) burst
  •  Full-featured continuous shooting up to 120 frames per second
  •  Supports burst continuous shooting mode of 240 frames/second
  •  1 second pre-continuous shooting
  •  Better dynamic range than Canon EOS R3 and R5
  •  Compatible with two standards for 16bit DGO-RAW shooting
  •  In-camera depth compositing RAW
  •  6.7K60p and 4.2K120p (APS-C), 12bit Cinema RAW light recording
  •  Full size/APS-C DCI /UHD 4K120p C-Log2 & C-Log3 recording
  •  Sleek body optimized for the best hand feel

If the current specifications are true, Canon EOS R1 seems to be heading in the direction of maximizing the performance of its rolling shutter, in contrast to Sony a9 III, which uses a global shutter. Flash synchronization of 1/1250 seconds is an amazing spec if true. The continuous shooting speed also seems to be on par with global shutter models.

It is also said to have a better dynamic range than Canon EOS R3 and R5, so we can expect an improvement in image quality.
