Fujifilm’s venerable X100 series has long been a favorite among street photographers and travelers for its classic design and image quality. The upcoming X100VI looks to take everything up a notch with some major rumored upgrades under the hood.
Headlining the specs is a new 40MP APS-C sensor, which would be the same high-resolution chip found in the Fujifilm X-H2 camera. Paired with the latest generation X-Processor 5 chip, we can expect stunning levels of detail along with improved noise control at higher ISOs.
The hybrid viewfinder will allegedly receive an upgrade to 3.69 million dots resolution, providing an extremely sharp and detailed electronic view for critical manual focusing applications. Autofocus performance also looks to make a big leap forward thanks to advanced subject detection algorithms that can recognize animals, birds, vehicles, and people.
On the video side, the X100VI topped out at 4K/30p but the VI may offer 6.2K recording along with 4K up to 60fps. This would make the new model much more viable as a video camera for vlogging and travel documentaries.
The rest of the rumored specs of Fujifilm X100VI include:
- 40MP APS-C X-Trans Sensor
- In-Body Image Stabilization
- 1/180,000 max shutter speed
- Advanced subject detection AF algorithms
- 3.69m-dot OLED EVF
- 4K/60p and 6.2K/30p video
- UHS-I SD card slot
- Slightly heavier than X100V
- Same size as previous X100V
Pricing for the X100VI is rumored to be around $300 higher than the X100V’s launch price. However, Fujifilm cameras often see discounts soon after release. And given the major spec upgrades like IBIS, a 40MP sensor, much faster burst shooting and video capabilities – a slightly higher starting price seems fair if it materializes.
The official announcement date for Fujifilm X100VI is on February 20th, 2024. Stay tuned for more info.
