Tamron is bringing the 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A062) to Nikon Z. Tamron says the full-frame zoom goes on sale October 22, 2026. The company’s own release does not list a US price. DPReview reports $729, which is $30 more than the $699 Sony E version announced in 2022. The Z mount is made under license from Nikon. You can now pre-order at B&H Photo Video.
The range is the reason to look at it. A constant F2.8 from a real 20mm to 40mm covers landscapes and everyday frames without stretching into a 24-70. On a Nikon DX body that is about 30-60mm equivalent. There is no vibration compensation. The small barrel is the compensation.
A little longer than the Sony version
Tamron’s product page still quotes the Sony E lens at 86.5 mm and 365 g. The Z announcement is a separate set of numbers: 74.4 × 88.7 mm and 380 g, with length measured from the front of the lens to the mount face. Tamron calls that class-leading among F2.8 standard zooms for full-frame mirrorless cameras, as of August 2026, by its own comparison.

Tamron describes the motor as quiet enough for video and says the lens stays balanced on a grip or a small gimbal. Close focus at 20mm is the wide-macro trick: 1:3.8 while the background is still in the frame. The barrel is moisture-resistant, not waterproof, with a fluorine coating on the front element. A flower hood is included. TAMRON Lens Utility is supported.
On Nikon Z, Tamron lists Hybrid AF, Eye AF, M/A (autofocus with manual override), and in-camera correction for shading, chromatic aberration, and distortion. Those depend on the camera. Tamron says the body’s lens-correction setting should be ON or AUTO, and that the camera firmware should be current. That compatibility list is dated August 2026.
