Sigma has stopped teasing and started selling. The 85mm F1.2 DG | Art is out of development and on the price list: $1,599 in the United States, Sony E-mount and L-Mount, from authorized dealers beginning October 6, 2026. You can pre-order at B&H Photo Video.
That finishes the job Sigma set in February. The 85mm now sits next to the 35mm F1.2 DG II | Art and the 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art as the medium-telephoto leg of a three-lens F1.2 Art set. Dual HLA autofocus, a 13-blade diaphragm, and a claimed class-smallest 905g body are the hardware pitch. We covered the development announcement and early B&H listing in February; this is the full spec sheet and the street date.

Why $1,599 is the interesting number
Sigma already sells an 85mm Art for these mounts: the 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art, which is a stop slower and around 630g. The new lens is the faster, heavier sibling — still under a kilogram. Sigma’s own claim is that 905g is the smallest and lightest AF 85mm F1.2 for full-frame mirrorless as of September 2026. That is the comparison that matters more than another f/1.4: Canon’s and Nikon’s native 85mm f/1.2 primes sit well over a kilogram, and Sony still does not make an 85mm f/1.2.
What you do not get is close focus. 84cm and 1:8.9 are classic portrait-prime distances, not the near-macro working range some recent 85s have chased. There is also no optical stabilizer on the spec sheet. On a body with IBIS that is a reasonable trade for the dual HLA stack and the 13-blade iris.
DPReview’s launch write-up frames this as the portrait lens Sony and L-Mount shooters have been waiting on at that $1,599 ticket. B&H’s Explora roundup pairs it with the same-day 20-60mm F2.8-4 DG Contemporary. Sigma’s US store currently has the lens up for reservation while dealers spool up for October 6.
