Canon today announced that they have successfully developed an APS-H size CMOS sensor incorporating approximately 250 million pixels (19,580 x 12,600 pixels). Canon says this is the world’s highest pixel count for its size.
Ricoh has updated latest version of its 360-degree camera, the Theta S (B&H Photo Video, Adorama). Thanks to two 12MP 1/2.3″ sensors, the S is capable of 14MP 360-degree still images, an improvement over the previous model’s 6MP images. Brighter F2.0 lenses, 1080/30p video and integration with Google’s new Street View app are all on board.
Canon recently has developed Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR), a new optical element for use in camera lenses that corrects chromatic aberrations at an extremely high level to achieve superb imaging performance. The first lens use this BR optical element is the new announced EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM Lens (Amazon, B&H Photo Video, Adorama).
Tamron has recently filed another full frame mirrorless lens for Sony Alpha full frame E-mount mirrorless cameras. This patent is Tamron FE 24mm f/2 VC lens.
Along with new AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR lens, Nikon also announced two super telephoto prime lenses today: AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR (Sample Images)and AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR (Sample Images). Both are significantly lighter than the versions that preceded them and each use an electromagnetic diaphragm for more consistent exposure control during burst shooting. The Nikkor 500mm F4E weighs 6.8 lbs/3090 g as compared to 8.5 lb/3880 g of its predecessor, and includes three Extra Low Dispersion elements. The 600mm F4E is 3.2 lb/1450 g lighter than the preceding model, weighing 8.3 lb/3810 g. Both lenses use Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coating, two fluorite elements and VR rated to 4 stops of stabilization.
