Two days out from the rumored New York date, Canon Rumors has revised the EOS R8 Mark II sheet. The headline changes are weather sealing and money: the body is now $1,899, not the $1,799 CR had been carrying, and Canon is said to be calling the camera “fully” weather-sealed. The €1,879 figure is unchanged. Tuesday, September 15, 2026 is still the announcement. Shipping has been tightened to the second half of October.
This is still a rumor update, not a Canon press release. CR says it has “confirmed” the new items with its sources and that there are “no more surprises coming.” Treat the numbers as the latest leak, not a store listing.
What actually moved
Weather sealing is the feature the original R8 never seriously claimed. CR says Canon’s wording is “fully,” and immediately hedges: it is probably not R1 / R5 Mark II sealing. No IP rating is in the report. Do not invent one.
Price: $1,899 body, $2,099 with the RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM, extension grip $99, Speedlite EL-5 II $379. No sterling figure yet. That body price is $400 over the original R8’s $1,499 launch and $100 over CR’s own earlier $1,799 leak. The kit adds $200 to the body, which is how Canon usually hides the 24-50.
CR also added size and mass to the sheet: about 131.5 × 90.0 × 80mm and 500g body only. The original R8 is 132.5 × 86.1 × 70.0mm and 461g with battery and card (CIPA). The leak’s 80mm depth versus 70mm is the IBIS-shaped change; the 500g number is body-only, so do not stack it against the 461g CIPA figure as a clean apples-to-apples jump.
The smaller “confirmed” bits
CR now lists Register People Priority, Slow & Fast mode, 1/200s flash sync, −7.5 EV AF sensitivity, C-Log 3 / 709 / PQ / HLG, and 2.4 / 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Those sit on top of the sheet we already ran: 24MP (called an R6 II sensor), 7.5-stop IBIS, 40fps electronic / no mechanical shutter, 20fps pre-shoot, 4K/60p with 6K oversampling, joystick, side SD door, LP-E17. See the leak photos and the earlier spec dump.
Canon’s own marketing line, per CR: “Modern EOS Aesthetic with a Classic Camera Design Philosophy.” That is the official phrasing CR says will replace the “retro” rumor. The site still calls the design polarizing.
CR also waves at its EOS R9 budget-body rumor: $1,899 makes a cheaper full-frame later look more necessary. That aside is still a guess — the same post even floats “the next six months,” which is not a new source.
