Best Cameras of 2023 (DigiralCameraWord)

DigitalCameraWorld lists the best cameras of 2023 as selected by the magazine’s staff. They are Sony A9 III, Fujifilm X-S20, HoverAir X1, Nikon Z8, Nikon Zf, Fujifilm GFX 100 II, OM System Tough TG-7, Canon EOS R100 and Leica M11 Monochrom.

Editor James Artaius: Sony A9 III
It’s not often that a camera emerges that completely overwhelms its competitors, but Sony a9 III did just that. This camera is the fastest and smartest camera and has some features that other cameras don’t have. This camera has no mechanical or rolling shutter, and when you use it, you can get a glimpse of the future of photography. Sony a9 III is the best camera of 2023, and with the arrival of this technology, cameras in 2024 and beyond will be even better.

Reviews Editor Gareth Bevan: Fujifilm X-S20
When we talk about the best cameras, we often end up with cameras that are overkill for most users, but the best cameras are the ones that actually have all the features you need and are sold at a fair price. I think  Fujifilm X-S20 is the best option for 2023 for most people. This camera will still be a winner in 2024.

Chief Editor Adam Juniper: HoverAir X1
I’m a drone person and like surprises, so the most exciting camera for 2023 is the HoverAir X1. This drone is revolutionary in many ways. Although it is extremely lightweight, it uses a simple cage to ensure more safety than other drones. The breakthrough is that a remote control is completely unnecessary, and the main camera is used to track the subject.

Australia Editor-in-Chief Sharmishta Sarkar: Nikon Z8
I’m not a professional or sports photographer, so I honestly don’t want to carry around a bulky camera. So I was overjoyed when the Z9 became smaller. It may be excessive performance for me, but I’m excited about this performance. Nikon Z8 packs speed into a compact body, leaving you imagining what kind of photography adventures you can take on it.

Content Director Chris George: OM SYSTEM TG-7
I would like to commend OM SYSTEM for introducing a new compact camera at a time when several well-known manufacturers have discontinued the production of compact cameras. Smartphones often replace point-and-shoot cameras, but few people want to use them while paddling in the ocean. This is where Tough Camera shows its true value.

Staff Writer Hannah Rooke: Nikon Zf
We’ve been longing for a full-size, retro-style mirrorless camera, and Nikon has finally delivered with the Zf. Nikon Zf is retro in style, but not technically retro. I don’t like color variations, but I have to admit that I’m a fan of Zf’s color variations (premium exterior colors). Zf follows the style of my favorite film camera very well, the FM2, which is why I’m a big fan of Zf.

Staff Writer Kalum Carter: Fujifilm GFX100 II
I am a GFX50SII user and the image quality is great, but my clients’ video needs are increasing and this camera is not enough. GFX100II can change that situation. The GFX100II could be one of the best hybrid cameras, allowing you to create great stills and videos without having to change cameras. This camera is at the top of my Christmas list!

Lab Manager Ben Andrew: Canon EOS R100
In times of financial hardship, affordable cameras are needed more than ever. But affordable SLRs are a thing of the past, and entry-level mirrorless cameras are either out of production or have had their prices hiked, leaving those who value value without many options. Then came the EOS R100, which costs $599 as a lens kit. Although the R100 doesn’t have many features as a camera, it is packed with all the features a photographer actually needs and can take great photos. If you want to switch from a smartphone to a proper camera, you can’t go wrong with the EOS R100.

E-commerce Editor Sebastian Oakley: Leica M11 Monochrome
This camera is definitely my pick for 2023. As a big fan of Leica, and many of my works developed in black and white using RAW processing, a monochrome-only camera is appealing to me. The exterior design of this camera is timeless and the images it produces are outstanding.
