Panasonic has added the pancake the compact L-Mount kit was missing. The LUMIX S 20mm F2.5 (S-S20) is a full-frame ultra-wide prime at $499.99 / €499 / £429, due to ship in October 2026. Black is S-S20K at B&H; silver is S-S20S.

B&H Explora is selling it as a street-and-travel walkaround. The numbers back that up: about 142g without caps, 40.9mm from the front glass to the mount, φ69.4mm, 62mm filters. That is the same length and filter size as the S 40mm F2 and the 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 when the zoom is collapsed — one pouch, shared filters, S9-sized full-frame.

What Panasonic published

LUMIX S 20mm F2.5
SKU S-S20 (black / silver)
Mount / coverage L-Mount, full-frame (94° diagonal)
Optics 11 elements / 9 groups (3 aspherical, 3 ED)
Aperture F2.5–F22, 7-blade circular
Closest focus 0.18m / 0.59 ft
Filter / size / weight 62mm · φ69.4 × 40.9mm · ~142g
US / EU / UK $499.99 / €499 / £429

Panasonic did not list a maximum magnification on the US spec sheet. Do not invent one from the 0.18m figure. There is no optical stabilizer in the barrel; IBIS on the body is the shake story.

Focus is inner, stepping-motor, rated for up to 240fps AF communication with a compatible body. Video gets suppressed breathing and micro-step aperture. The focus ring can be a control ring; the barrel button is an Fn key. With the S9’s firmware 2.1 on October 13, Crop Zoom and a longer list of video functions can sit on that button. Dust/splash resistance is the usual Panasonic footnote (body must match); freeze rating is −10°C / 14°F, fluorine on the front.

Where it sits

The S 40mm F2 launched at $399 as the other pancake. This 20mm is a hundred more for the wide end of the same bag. It is not an F1.8 S-series prime and not a Sigma 20mm Art; it is the lens you leave on an S9. Silver exists because the S9 exists. Japan’s list is ¥84,700, late October.
