Nikon today has officially released a major new firmware update version 5.00 for Nikon Z9 flagship full frame mirrorless camera. This firmware update enhancing sports and portrait photography capabilities. The update expands Auto Capture, High-Speed Frame Capture+, and adds a Rich Tone Portrait Picture Control. Nikon also updated its SnapBridge app with the Easy Shooting Setup feature, allowing users to configure camera settings from their smart devices based on scenes and subjects. These updates showcase Nikon’s commitment to improving product functionality through firmware and software updates to meet photographers’ needs.

Nikon Z9: The Camera Bound for the Lunar Surface with NASA’s Artemis

NASA’s Artemis program, aimed at returning humans to the lunar surface, has chosen an unexpected partner for capturing iconic images during future moon missions – Nikon. The Japanese camera manufacturer will provide modified versions of its flagship mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z9, to be used by astronauts on the moon under the name “Handheld Universal Lunar Camera” or HULC.

According to latest rumors, Nikon is rumored to release a new high-speed full frame mirrorless camera ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This camera could be the ‘Nikon Z9H‘, it is aims to push the boundaries of speed and performance for professional sports and wildlife photographers.

Nikon has a strong history of releasing high-speed cameras timed with past Olympic Games. The revolutionary D1H was launched just before the 2000 Sydney Olympics, while the groundbreaking D3 arrived shortly before the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The rumored Z9H looks to continue this tradition as Nikon’s flagship camera for the 2024 Olympics.

Nikon Z9 Sensor Test (DxOMark): 98 Points!

DxOMark tested the sensor of the newly announced Nikon Z9 (Amazon/ B&H/ Adorama).  This new Nikon Z9 sensor achieved an excellent high score of 98 points. In their rankings, this places the new Nikon flagship in joint 9th position for all sensor sizes, including medium format.
