Canon Rumors is putting the EOS R7 Mark II in Q1 2027, and it is still saying the camera is not a 2026 product. The site first parked the body outside this year in April. This update is a window, not a spec sheet.
The timing comes from a source CR calls fairly reliable: anonymous for years, right more often than not. CR has been leaning toward a launch ahead of CP+ in late February, on the idea that a high-volume APS-C body would want that show. A second source did not have a date, and only described the camera as a “massive” step for Canon’s APS-C line. No sensor, burst rate, or price is attached to either tip.
What “Q1” does and does not mean
CR allows one narrow exception. An announcement in mid-December 2026 with a ship date in January could be argued as a 2026 reveal and a 2027 camera. The site calls that highly unlikely. The working claim is an official announcement in the first quarter of next year.
The original EOS R7 was announced on May 24, 2022 — Canon’s first APS-C EOS R body, 32.5MP, IBIS, 15 fps mechanical / 30 fps electronic. A Q1 2027 Mark II would land almost five years later. Canon has not confirmed a successor.
Why CR is hedging the “massive” line
The same post points at the EOS R8 Mark II. Months of “retro” talk ended in a conventional body; Canon did say there was retro influence, and that was about the extent of it. CR’s own caution: treat “massive step forward” as a source’s adjective until there is a body.
The site also says the next Canon announcements it expects are lenses, not this camera. A macro and an f/2 zoom are called 95% certain, and the macro closer to a lock. Neither lens is named in the post.
CR’s wider framing — R5 Mark III details already circulating, and no near-term follow-ups to the R1 or R5 Mark II — is the site’s read of the full-frame queue. It is not a Canon roadmap.
