Images of Canon’s upcoming wireless microphone system have leaked online, revealing a compact Bluetooth-based lavalier mic designed specifically for Canon EOS R mirrorless cameras. The system, codenamed WM-E1-R, consists of a transmitter and receiver unit.

The leaked images show a sleek, black, oval-shaped transmitter with the Canon logo and “WM-E1-R” labeling, alongside a square-shaped receiver designed to mount directly onto the Canon Multi-Function Shoe found on EOS R cameras. The receiver also includes a 3.5mm jack for compatibility with other cameras.

The WM-E1-R was registered with the FCC back in mid-2024 under model numbers DS586233 (transmitter) and DS586234 (receiver), but Canon has yet to make an official announcement. The microphone system uses Bluetooth Low Energy for low-latency wireless audio transmission, and the compact design makes it suitable for lavalier use.
Canon’s current microphone lineup includes wired options like the DM-E1D and DM-E100, so the WM-E1-R would fill a gap in their wireless audio offerings. With competitors like DJI, Hollyland, and Rode already dominating the wireless mic market, Canon appears to be positioning this as a native ecosystem solution for EOS R shooters.
Pricing is expected to fall in the $200-$300 range. The announcement could come alongside Canon’s next camera or lens release in 2026.
