Canon Leaks RF 45mm f/1.2 STM & RF 20-50mm f/4 PZ Lenses in Survey Form

Canon has inadvertently revealed two upcoming RF lenses through a feedback form at a recent company event. The leaked lenses are the RF 45mm f/1.2 STM and RF 20-50mm f/4 PZ, both generating significant interest among photographers.

The RF 45mm f/1.2 STM stands out for several reasons. Notably, it lacks Canon’s premium “L” designation, suggesting a more affordable, lightweight alternative to existing fast primes. This positioning would avoid direct competition with Canon’s current RF 50mm f/1.2L USM and RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM lenses. The unusual 45mm focal length and f/1.2 aperture paired with STM focusing motor creates an intriguing combination for portrait and street photography.

The RF 20-50mm f/4 PZ represents Canon’s expansion into power zoom technology for full-frame cameras. Canon previously introduced power zoom with the RF-S 14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ for APS-C cameras, and an optical design patent for this RF 20-50mm variant has already surfaced.

These potential releases align with Canon’s apparent strategy shift toward smaller, non-L designated lenses, similar to the recently announced RF 28-70mm f/2.8 IS STM. Canon has scheduled announcements for November 16 and 26, 2025, covering cameras and lenses respectively.

If materialized, these lenses would expand Canon’s RF mount ecosystem with more accessible options while maintaining professional-grade performance. The 45mm f/1.2 particularly fills a unique niche between Canon’s existing 35mm and 50mm offerings.
