Canon R7 Mark II is coming! According to CR, this new camera will be officially announced in 2025 along with two “higher-end” RF-S zoom lenses.
2024 announcement cycle has concluded, and throughout the year, Canon introduced several professional full-frame cameras and seven new lenses, including two that focus on VR. Notably, four new L-series lenses were launched, featuring the hybrid trio of L primes and the long-awaited internal zoom 70-200mm lens.
Looking ahead to 2025, Canon plans to refresh both full-frame and APS-C sensor camera lines. Canon EOS R6 Mark III is expected to debut in the first quarter, potentially ahead of CP+ in February. There are indications that Canon will make significant changes to its APS-C lineup later that year, suggesting more than just simple Mark II updates.
The forthcoming Canon EOS R7 Mark II will be the first APS-C Canon camera equipped with a stacked sensor. Although specifics on the sensor’s resolution haven’t been announced, increasing it beyond the current 32.5MP could enable 8K video capabilities. Reports suggest Canon EOS R7 Mark II aims to reach a more advanced market, possibly positioning it as a true successor to Canon EOS 7D Mark II. We may see this camera as early as Q3 of 2025.
In addition, two new “pro” RF-S lenses are slated for release next year, covering a 35mm equivalent range of 24mm to 200mm. Although they will not be L lenses, they promise constant aperture and improved STM technology. Furthermore, Canon is planning to introduce an RF-S prime lens, though details on its focal length remain undisclosed.
