Panasonic GH6 successor to be Announced in January or February?

the current GH6 (Amazon/ B&H/ Adorama)

Panasonic GH6 was officially announced in February 2022. It is extremely unusual for Panasonic to announce a successor just two years after the current Panasonic GH6. However, there are two things to consider.

  • Phase detection AF is an important feature that Panasonic wants to implement in all models as soon as possible.
  •  Panasonic S5 II equipped with phase detection AF was announced just two years after the first generation S5.

Panasonic currently has a total of two cameras registered with Chinese certification authorities. It usually takes several months for a registered product to be officially announced.

– P2303A supports 5.1/2.4GHz, which indicates a high-end machine (possibly GH7 or SR1II).
– The P2301A only supports 2.4GHz, indicating that it is an entry-level device .

Considering the model change cycle, it seems that the GH6 successor (GH7?) has arrived too early, but the M4/3 still flagship G9 II has significantly improved AF performance by adopting image plane phase detection AF. Since the improvements have been made, the video flagship model GH6 cannot be left as is, and there may be a possibility of a model change soon.
