Cosina has officially announced the Voigtlander SEPTON 40mm f/2 Aspherical pancake lens for Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount. This compact manual focus lens measures just 30mm from the mount surface and weighs only 165g. It will be available in March 2026 at a price of ¥85,000 (approx. $560).
Think of this as a modern take on the classic Orthometar optical design. Cosina added one extra element to the formula, ending up with 7 elements in 6 groups that deliver an f/2 maximum aperture in a remarkably thin package. The 40mm focal length sits in that sweet spot between wide-angle and standard — versatile enough for everyday shooting.
The lens has electronic contacts, so your Exif data stays intact. It also includes a distance encoder for 5-axis IBIS support on compatible bodies, and focus magnification works when you turn the focus ring. The all-metal helicoid provides smooth, precise manual focusing. A dome-shaped metal screw-in hood is included, and it accepts 52mm filters whether the hood is on or off.
