Sigma has just announced the new dp1 Quattro compact camera. It combines the 29MP Foveon X3 Direct Image Sensor with the TRUE III image processing engine to create high quality images with an equivalent resolution of 39 megapixels due to the unique sensor design. This method uses layers of pixels to capture the color data of the red, green, and blue spectrums vertically, requiring no interpolation. This results in a sharper image with better color gradations.
Sigma will soon announce several new compact cameras named Sigma Quattro DP1, DP2, DP3. Russian forum has leaked some images of Sigma Quattro dp2. dp2 will have a new imaging processor called TRUE III. An optical viewfinder will also be available for dp2.
