OM System in 2024 (PetaPixel): Not the Year OM System Needed

PP posted a big reason why this year was a bad one for OM System is evidenced by the shortness of this section. There is only one camera OM-1 Mark II!

There’s nothing inherently wrong with minor updates to cameras; they are common across the industry and help keep product lines fresh while more significant advancements are still in development.

However, this situation is particularly disappointing for OM System. Since the company’s transition from Olympus, we’ve seen very few substantial innovations. Although the OM-1 is considered one of the best Micro Four Thirds cameras available, it largely reflects the legacy of Olympus, despite the incremental enhancements seen in the OM-1 II that are more aligned with OM System’s efforts. The development of a camera typically spans several years, so it’s unlikely that the OM-1 was solely the result of OM System’s initiatives. Additionally, there’s a strong continuity between Olympus and OM System, as many former employees made the shift.

The main concern is that OM System launched only one camera in 2024, and it failed to create a significant impact. The overall lineup from OM System requires updates, particularly for entry-level and enthusiast photographers. The system started the year with limited offerings, and 2024 did little to improve that situation.
