The highly anticipated DJI RS 5 professional camera gimbal has made its way to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database, suggesting an imminent release. An early leak has confirmed that DJI is working to update its Ronin camera gimbal series with a fifth-generation model. Revealed as the DJI RS 5, the camera gimbal will feature at least one major hardware upgrade over the RS 4 and RS 4 Pro, as well as the RS 4 Mini.
The most significant upgrade confirmed through FCC documentation is the battery capacity enhancement. Specifically, the image that Igor Bogdanov has shared reveals the presence of a 33.29 Wh battery, up from 21 Wh in the RS 4. Moreover, this battery upgrade would surpass the RS 4 Pro too, which features a 30 Wh battery capacity out of the box. This represents a substantial 58% increase in battery capacity compared to the standard RS 4.
Typically there between 4-8 weeks between a new DJI product showing up in FCC filings and its actual release. The FCC filing (2ANDR-P15C25) indicates that DJI has completed necessary regulatory approvals for the U.S. market, positioning the RS 5 for a potential launch in late 2025 or early 2026.
However, industry speculation suggests a more conservative timeline. An RS 5 release date remains unknown for the time being, as do other changes from the RS 4 series. Based on past performance, we would be surprised to see the RS 5 officially launching before the start of next year.
The RS 5’s appearance at the FCC signals DJI’s commitment to advancing its professional gimbal lineup, with the enhanced battery capacity promising longer shooting sessions for content creators and filmmakers.
