The Razer Blade 15 is a slim and powerful gaming laptop that packs impressive performance into a portable chassis. Razer has refined the Blade over the years into an excellent all-around laptop that can handle both gaming and productivity.
In terms of design, the Razer Blade 15 features an all-black aluminum unibody that looks stealthy and feels sturdy. It’s quite slim for a gaming laptop at just 0.78 inches thick and weighs 4.7 pounds, making it fairly portable. The build quality is excellent with tight tolerances and minimal flex. The clean aesthetic with Razer’s signature green triple-headed snake logo also gives it a stylish look compared to other gaming laptops.
Under the hood, the Razer Blade 15 can be configured with up to an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics. This hardware combo provides enough power to play modern games at high frame rates even when ray tracing is enabled. Performance is snappy thanks to the speedy PCIe SSD and abundant 16GB of RAM in the base model. Thermals are well managed thanks to the vapor chamber cooling system that keeps the outside surface relatively cool during gaming sessions.
The 15.6-inch display comes in a few different options depending on the configuration. The base model has a Full HD 144Hz panel while higher-end models have QHD or 4K options, some with fast 360Hz refresh rates ideal for competitive esports gaming. The matte screen has vibrant colors and deep blacks though the bezels are a bit thick. At over 300 nits brightness, the screen is visible even in bright rooms.
For controls, the keyboard uses Razer’s Chroma RGB backlighting with per-key customization and anti-ghosting. The keys feel tactile and responsive thanks to the optimum actuation force though they are a bit noisy. The glass precision touchpad is spacious and accurate. Port selection is robust with Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, HDMI, and a headphone jack. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. The webcam is just 720p resolution, which is underwhelming.
Battery life is fairly short since this is a power-hungry gaming laptop. You can expect around 6 hours of general use, but gaming will run the battery down much quicker in under an hour. The 230W power brick is compact for the level of power.
When it comes to software, Razer provides useful tools like Synapse for customizing the RGB lighting and managing device settings. The laptop comes with some bloatware though like Netflix and Hulu trials.
At around $1500 starting price, the Razer Blade 15 delivers strong gaming prowess and good productivity performance in a premium and portable metal chassis. The high-end configs can get quite expensive but the base model is competitively priced for the components. If you want a slim and powerful gaming laptop, the Razer Blade 15 is an excellent choice.
