  1. The Canon 3D look like exactly what I’m looking for… hey, take a look at the top of the body… it looks quite flattened… could it be a Pellicle fixed mirror design, where the Photog is loking at a micro HDTV lcd for image composition… we have been testing the SONY a77 for several months and really like what it has to offer… but in truth I am a Canon guy for 18years, and love the “L” lenses… Jim.W

  2. We don’t need more Mpixels we need better lenses and higher dynamic ratio, nice to see it’s 16bit though but what can display that, prints won’t even show it as far as I know. Make sure it’s sealed tight and has the lowest shutter lag in history.

    1. It will show up lenses like the 17-40 f/4 L which is lousy at 35-40mm, also the 20mm f/2.8 prime.

I see high quality primes (L glass) being used with this camera.

  3. Will it be affordable is more of the question. A lot of people were complaining about the 36MP D800. And Experienced Medium Format folks, say that there is still a difference between a high MP FX camera and a Medium Format camera, so I think we’ve crossed the boundary here.

The sweet spot seems to be around 20 – 24MP in order to get the low light capabilities most seem to be going after. Above you need a more precise workflow, space, high end lenses, etc.

  4. An interesting note from the image shown is EYE CONTROL… If this is an Improved feature, then it could be wonderful. The system works by an internal view-finder system, where the camera analyzes where the Cornea of your Eye is “angled.” With this measurement, the internal system, make a calculation in determining where the Photog is looking on the image area… then the Camera Focuses on the subject area of the image… This could be an amazing feature…

The next point, is what will the Canon 3D cost the Photog… Since the Canon 1Dx is a $6500 item and the Canon 5D3 is a $3500, will the Canon 3D “price-point” slip between the 1D and the 5D, say $4500 to $5000. And for those above that think 46MP is unnecessary… More Pixels means more than Bigger Prints or Projections, it means, finer Cropping Capability,,, with a 46MP image, one could “Trim Away” 80% of the image, and still have enough image information to deliver a 9MP image, enough for an 8×10″ print at 300dpi. Another point, at 46MP printing at 600pdi, which some high quality Magazines use, 46MP delivers an image of 8.5″x11.25″ at 600dpi…

We are very interested in this Camera, if the Rumors are true particularly at the $5000 price point.

  5. Funny that Canon had Eye Control in a $400. A2E, basically amateur body in the 90’s. That was great for shooting fast action sports, events, street, but don’t need 46MP for that. I would buy it for a less expensive alternative to MF for stills and studio or architecture work.
