Rothy’s is a San Francisco based company that makes shoes out of recycled plastic water bottles. Their shoes have a distinctive knit upper made from this recycled material, giving them a comfortable yet structured look and feel. Rothy’s are known for their washable flats and loafers that are perfect for everyday wear.
I’ve owned a pair of Rothy’s pointed toe flats for over a year now and find them to be extremely comfortable while still looking stylish and put together. The knit material stretches to conform to your feet and has good breathability. The insole is cushioned and supportive while still being thin enough to allow your foot to sit low in the shoe, giving you a natural barefoot feel. The outsole is made from recycled rubber and provides decent traction.
One of the best things about Rothy’s is that you can toss them in the washing machine when they get dirty or smelly. They hold their shape and come out looking brand new. This makes them very convenient for travel since you can just pack one or two pairs. The shoes don’t require any break-in period either – they are comfortable right out of the box.
In terms of style, Rothy’s flats come in both pointed and round toe silhouettes. They have a low profile design without too much bulk. The loafers are great for a menswear-inspired casual look. Rothy’s makes use of fun patterns and prints like camo, leopard, and colorful stripes. The shoes run true to size.
The price point of around $125-150 is on the higher end for flats but comparable to designer brands. For an everyday shoe that requires minimal care, holds up well, and can be machine washed, Rothy’s are a solid investment. Just be aware that the thin knit upper won’t provide much warmth in cold weather. Overall, Rothy’s are a great option for comfortable, machine washable flats and loafers.
