Nikon USA consider the new announced Nikon D7100 as “The new flagship of Nikon’s DX-format HD-SLR lineup”, see the screenshot from Nikon USA website:
But from Nikon Europe website, Nikon D7100 is “the new enthusiast-level DX format camera”, see the screenshot from Nikon Europe website:
A dpreview forum member contacted Nikon Europe and asked them about the new D7100 being described as the “new flagship of Nikon’s DX-format HD-SLR lineup” on Nikon USA website, but described as “enthusiast-level DX format camera” in Nikon Europe. Nikon answer this question:
I can assure you that the D7100 is not positioned to replace the D300s as Nikon’s flagship DX-format camera – such is the information received from Nikon Japan on the matter.
So the successor of Nikon D300S maybe the Nikon D400.
And what would they put in the D400 that the D7100 doesn’t have….. besides a bbf, 7-8 fps…
My guess probably a full magnesium alloy body which the D7100 does have (only top and bottom). It’s currently like that when you compare the D7000 to the D300s.
Nikon just announced D7100 with 24.1 MP but still more exciting camera will coming soon ? D400 with Full frame format camera which can be used DX mode at same time .So DX lens will able to use on full frame body format. What a nice functional camera . Now it a war between D600 and D400(if it will be announced ):)
please no , let the D400 be a DX format, If you want to have a FX take a D600 or D800
