That lens is awful. No depth. No color saturation. No contrast. Flat lifeless images. $2200 really? Get an f2 105mm Nikkor for half the cost.

I agree. There is no feeling of dimentions in face pic 1. Image nr 2, looks like she’s stitched in to a “flat background”. For all I know she could have a flat poster behind her even tho I know better. No dimentions at all pic 2. At pic 3 it looks like model and car is photographed against a wallpaper, still very bad translation of dimentions. In other words, there is no “depth” in the shadows. There’s almost no difference in “space”/dimentions on picture 4, buildenings right hand side. The only thing that gives some depth is the bridge. and tower in background, but still very dissapointing compared to my 30 year old 200mm f4. I got nothing to say on last image because DOF say more than dimentions would.
It looks like a shitty black & white lens, hell, even for color images it looks like a $2200 turd. If Nikon is lucky they gonna sell it to some amateurs who wont know difference than sharpness alone, or DxO nerds.
I was waiting for this lens since Nikon revealed it, but youtube guys told me to wait with preordering until testshots arrived. They said Nikon made shit lenses in the last years, and this really proves it. I also own a 70-200 f2.8 VR2 which Nikon just discontinued. Yes, that one It’s one of their shitlenses.. I wonder what they gonna do with the 70-200 situation. Maybe I go buy Tamron’s 70-200 or the old 80-200 nikkor, not that it matters in this situation.
In this situation I’m gonna spend half of the money (this lens cost) on the good old 105 f2 AF DC. Looks like they made lenses better when production was in Japan.

I think Nikon is really scratching the bottom of the barrel. It’s not possible such a expansive lens with this crap result. First Nikon has to lower its prices before just make expensive stuff for exclusivity. .. The Nikon who existed once is dead and gone today. Nikon company in our days make things with no sense. That’s why even more people start to prefer Canon, Sony, or Pentax. More innovation, less stupid sensless tradition, and they create lenses only when they are ready to pull them out not just because the schedule imposes that. Look at Nikon 58mm… no sense and crap lens (only for the bokeh…please…. Sharpness and microcrontrast are the most important in such expensive lenses and 58mm miss everything). 70-200mm 2.8,… maybe the best among the worst lenses. Nikon 105mm 1.4???? another failed from these shots… And this should be a serious company? please, they still have not understood this make its consumers even more angry and unsatisfied, people are not completely stupid. Nikon will be fall soon I guess. It DOESN’T want to compete, it CANNOT compete with other brands in terms of quality that others provide. Still keep tight the quality of camera body.
Oh sorry I forget… the tradition…. maybe they want to keep tight the old lenses… yeah…. in 2016… the old lenses…. nice choice Nikon, congrats.
PS: I’m Nikon owner (probably stupid in fact) but it cannot be possibile that such a company creat lenses so expensive with such a poor quality… Nikon 50 1.8 is better, Nikon 70-200 f/4 is better too Only 14-24mm remain and the 85mm 1.4… still amazing lens. Sigma makes better lenses with half of the price…. this is not tolerate for such company. Lower all the prices from body to lenses (Especially) and start make real good stuff not only shi**y stuff.
