Fujifilm X-T6 Rumored to be Announced in 2024

The eagerly anticipated Fujifilm X-T6 mirrorless camera may be announced in 2024, according to recent speculation. The X-T series has seen a new model released every two years since the original X-T1 in 2014. This had led many to assume the X-T6 would arrive in 2024.

However, while a new X-T camera has come out every two years, the actual time between models has varied from 17 months between the X-T3 and X-T4 up to a lengthy 33 months between the X-T4 and recently released X-T5.

Looking at the month gaps between announcements shows an average cycle of around 30 months, or two and a half years. This means the X-T6 potentially coming out in May 2025 based on typical timescales.

The fastest refresh time previously was 26 months between the X-T2 and X-T3, which could point to a January 2025 announcement if Fujifilm rushed development. The longest was the 33 month gap to the X-T5 though, suggesting an arrival as late as August 2025 is also plausible.

The quick 17 month hop from the X-T3 to X-T4 is considered an outlier unlikely to be repeated. The X-T4 reused much of the X-T3’s core features like sensor and processor and added in-body stabilization, a vari-angle touchscreen, and dramatically better battery life. It seemed to fill a gap left by Fujifilm struggling to launch a true replacement for the X-H1 flagship model.

Now that the powerful, video-centric new X-H2 cameras have been announced as the new system flagships, the X-T series has gone back to being a more compact, stills-focused option. This is evidenced by the recent retro-style X-T5 hearkening back to older rangefinder film camera designs.

With no solid rumors either confirming or denying an X-T6 in 2024, fans will likely need to wait until at least mid to late next year before potential leaks may emerge. But whenever the next generation X-T model arrives, it can expected to bring ever better performance in a compact, charismatic body true to Fujifilm’s renowned X series aesthetic.
