Nikon Z8 and Great Lenses Highlight Nikon’s Excellent Year!
Nikon released 10 very impressive new products in 2023.
There were only two new Z-mount cameras, and Nikon Z8 (Amazon/ B&H/ Adorama), was named PetaPixel of the Year. The other model is Nikon Zf (Amazon/ B&H/ Adorama), a beautiful, high-performance camera that combines classic style with the latest technology.
Regarding lenses, 2023 started with Nikon’s thinnest and lightest full-frame lens Nikon Z 26mm f/2.8 (B&H/ Adorama), and the large-diameter high-end portrait lens Nikon Z 85mm f/1.2 S (B&H/ Adorama) . The next lenses are DX lenses that were released in April and May. Nikon 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR (B&H/ Adorama) is a wide-angle lens for video, and Nikon 24mm f/1.7 (B&H/ Adorama)is a compact single-focal-length lens that provides high-quality bokeh.
Two telephoto zoom lenses were released in June. Nikon Z 70-180mm f/2.8 (B&H/ Adorama) is a more affordable option for a telephoto zoom. Nikon Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR (B&H/ Adorama) is a great lens for wildlife photography, offering incredible versatility at an affordable price.
Nikon Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena (B&H/ Adorama) is a lens with beautiful bokeh, and although it’s big, heavy, and expensive, it’s a great lens and will be a portrait photographer’s favorite lens for years to come.
The last lens is Nikon 600mm f/6.3 VR S (B&H/ Adorama) . This lens trades some brightness for a very manageable size and a relatively affordable $4,796 price!
Evaluation of Nikon’s new products in 2023: Evaluation is based on the number of products, quality, and whether they meet customer needs. Although Nikon had a small number of camera products, it accomplished the other two points perfectly. Nikon Z8 and Zf are both great cameras, with the Z8 offering many of the great things about the Z9 in a smaller, lighter, and more affordable format, and Nikon Zf offering a vintage-style camera with a full-frame sensor. Nikon’s 2023 camera rating is “A”.
Nikon’s 2023 lenses are even better than cameras, with eight new lenses covering the entire range from wide-angle DX to super-telephoto full-frame. The 85mm f/1.2 S and 135mm f/1.8 S Plena lenses are also great for portraits. In addition, the lineup of reasonable zooms has been completed with 70-180mm f/2.8 and 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR. And the 600mm f/6.3 is the most exciting wildlife lens these days. This year’s Nikon lenses are rated “A plus”.
