RF 85mm f/1.4L VCM and RF 11-55mm PZ Lenses Coming Along with EOS C50

Mockup

Canon is set to announce significant new equipment on September 9, 2025, including the Cinema EOS C50 that will replace the EOS R5 C, alongside two new lenses designed to complement the cinema camera.

The first lens is the highly anticipated RF 85mm f/1.4L VCM, confirming earlier July reports about an 85mm addition to Canon’s VCM L prime series. This lens will join the existing VCM lineup that includes 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm f/1.4L variants, maintaining the series’ consistent f/1.4 aperture.

The second lens remains more mysterious—a full-frame 11-55mm lens that may feature power zoom capabilities similar to the RF-S 14-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM PZ.

The Cinema EOS C50 will notably lack a built-in electronic viewfinder, as revealed in Canon’s teaser image. Unlike its predecessor, the C50 won’t include a mechanical shutter but will feature a video/photo switch, suggesting dual-purpose functionality. While primarily video-focused, the camera’s photography capabilities and compact form factor could appeal to hybrid shooters willing to work without an EVF.
