According to latest interview with Masaya Maeda from Canon Japan, Canon is currently working on a new 4K camera to compete against Panasonic GH4 and Sony A7S. This means Canon EOS-1D X Mark II will be released soon with 4K.

How are you addressing the demand for compact, 4K-capable cameras like Sony’s a7S and Panasonic’s GH4?
Naturally I can’t give you details of our future plans but we are fully aware that such requirements exist in the market. We’re currently in the process of investigating, mainly to satisfy the needs of news media, and we have every intention of addressing this need in future products.

I think the 5d mark 4 is the more likely candidate for this treatment.
How can Canon compete with the GH4 and a7s by releasing a 1DX even if it has 4k?
They are not in the same price bracket and Mr Maeda’s comment sounds unfortunately contrived by comparing a $6000 camera to $2500 cameras!
Canon already released the 4k 1DX… it’s called the 1DC.
So once the 5D mark IV do 4K, I wonder what the mirror less people are going to complain about. Then it would take all Sonys A7 3 cameras combine to do what the 5d does, high mp stills, 4kvideo, sports, focusing and all the native lenses. Damn you canon for waiting for everyone else to show their cards
