Best Flash for Hasselblad X2D II 100C
The Hasselblad X2D II 100C has no pop-up. The shoe speaks Nikon i-TTL. Flash fires only on the mechanical leaf shutter — electronic shutter is silent and the burst simply never happens. Hasselblad’s own TTL list is short: Nikon SB-300 / SB-500 / SB-700 / SB-5000, plus Profoto A10 / A1 and Air remotes. SB-500 is discontinued. SB-5000 radio AWL needs a Nikon WR-R body this camera is not. Profoto’s latest Nikon firmware (B4 class, March 2026) breaks Hasselblad TTL on purpose — Profoto’s own help desk says they have no Hasselblad TTL collab. The 2026 on-camera flash that is still on that list and still sold new is the Nikon SB-700.

Street prices move. The SB-5000 row is on the sheet and is the wrong radio story for this body. Leaf shutter sync is why HSS is not the buying criterion.
How We Picked These Flashes
- Hasselblad’s X2D II 100C datasheet and store FAQ: No built-in flash. Hot-shoe contacts. Extra port is a shutter-control jack for Release Cord X, not a PC terminal. Flash: mechanical shutter only; “flash can be used at all shutter speeds” on that mechanical shutter. XCD leaf shutters 68 min to 1/4000 s (lens-dependent; many XCD top out at 1/2000 s). HC/HCD through the XH converter: up to 1/800 s or 1/2000 s — not the same as native XCD. Electronic shutter 68 min to 1/6000 s, and flash is off. TTL ISO 50–25600; output −3 to +3 EV. FAQ “which flash/wireless trigger models are supported” in TTL: Nikon SB-300, SB-500, SB-700, SB-5000; Profoto A10, A1; remotes Connect Pro, Connect, Air Remote TTL. HNCS HDR is not supported when a Nikon-compatible flash is connected (same footnote as Continuous / focus BKT / M / RAW-only).
- What Nikon and Profoto actually sell in 2026: SB-700 is still a current Speedlight (GN 28 m / 92 ft at ISO 100, 35 mm FX, standard pattern; 24–120 mm zoom; 4× AA). SB-500 production ended January 2023. SB-5000 orders were suspended the same month; radio AWL on that gun expects a Nikon body + WR-R10/WR-R11, which the II does not have. Profoto support article “TTL Compatibility with Hasselblad Cameras” (updated 25 Aug 2026): no Hasselblad TTL collab; latest A10 / Connect / Connect Pro Nikon firmware drops Hasselblad TTL because it was tuned for Nikon; rollback is C7 on A10 via USB, or a service station for Connect Pro (you lose Multi-Pop / cycling). That is why A10 is not Overall.
- The box you actually buy: A Nikon-protocol foot for on-camera TTL. Godox does not publish a Hasselblad radio stack; V1-N / TT685II-N are Nikon-foot speedlights (76 Ws round head vs GN 60 zoom head). Off-camera Godox is center-pin / 2.4 GHz manual. Canon, Sony, and Fujifilm feet do not speak this shoe’s TTL. Leaf shutter already syncs at portrait speeds that would be HSS on a 1/180–1/200 focal-plane body — do not pay for HSS as the reason to own the flash. There is no video mode, so an LED modeling lamp is not a cinema argument.

Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight View on Amazon View on B&H
| SKU | Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight (MFR 4808). Nikon i-TTL Speedlight, not a Sony or Canon badge. |
|---|---|
| Nikon sheet | GN 28 m / 92 ft at ISO 100, 35 mm zoom, FX, standard pattern, 20 °C. Zoom 24–120 mm FX (14 mm with panel). Four AA. |
| On X2D II | On Hasselblad’s TTL list. Mechanical / leaf shutter only. FEC −3 to +3 in camera. HDR off while it sits in the shoe. |
| Not this | Optical CLS commander tricks that assume another Nikon body. Radio AWL. SB-5000 cooling as a reason to skip this gun. |
Why it fits the X2D II 100C. Hasselblad did not ship a flash. They printed four Nikon names. Two of those names are out of production. The remaining everyday Speedlight is the SB-700: bounce/swivel, three illumination patterns, a catchlight panel, and a GN that is honest at 35 mm rather than a 200 mm marketing number. On an XCD leaf shutter you sync at 1/2000 s (or 1/4000 s on the lenses that go that fast) at full dump — that is the II’s actual flash advantage, not Auto FP. Seat it fully in the hot shoe. Stay off electronic shutter. If the LCD asks FX vs DX, FX is the closer match to a 43.8 × 32.9 mm sensor; the zoom map will not be a 35 mm-format textbook, and you trim with FEC.
Skip this if you already live in Godox lithium and accept that off-camera groups will be manual — V1-N. Skip it if you need Profoto modifiers and can freeze A10 firmware. Skip a used SB-5000 sold as “the radio flash for Hasselblad.”
- On the II TTL list
- Still a current Nikon SKU
- Leaf-shutter sync does not need its HSS story
- GN 28 is modest next to a TT685II at 200 mm
- AA recycle at 1/1

Godox V1 Flash for Nikon View on Amazon View on B&H
| SKU | Godox V1-N / V1 Nikon. Not V1C, V1S, V1F, V1O. |
|---|---|
| Godox sheet | 76 Ws, 28–105 mm, 7.2 V / 2600 mAh class, ~1.5 s recycle, ~480 full-power pops, AK-R1 magnetics, 2 W LED lamp. |
| On X2D II | Not on Hasselblad’s printed list. Nikon-foot on-camera TTL is what forum reports describe. Godox 2.4 GHz TTL to AD200 / V1 remotes is not a Hasselblad radio protocol. |
| Buy this listing | V1 for Nikon. Skip V1Pro SU-1 as a “Hasselblad commander.” That sub-flash does not invent AirTTL. |
Why it fits the X2D II 100C. The II is 840 g with a battery and a 100 MP file. A round head and a Li-ion pack are why people leave the SB-700 in the bag after the first wedding. That is a handling argument, not an official-support argument. Mount N-foot, mechanical shutter, FEC in the body. For a second Godox head, treat the V1 as a 2.4 GHz manual master or put an X3-N in the shoe and run groups in manual — the same way a PocketWizard would. Do not buy this because a first-gen “X2D trigger” page sold XPro II-H as native TTL.
Skip this if you want the name Hasselblad printed — SB-700. Skip V1C on a “it has a pin” listing.
- Lithium recycle on a heavy body
- AK-R1 / round-head modifiers
- N-foot matches the shoe protocol
- Not on the FAQ list
- No Hasselblad wireless TTL

Godox TT685II-N View on Amazon View on B&H
| SKU | Godox TT685II-N / TT685N II. Nikon foot. Not TT685II-C / -S / -F. |
|---|---|
| Godox sheet | GN 60 m at ISO 100 (200 mm zoom), 20–200 mm, 4× AA, ~0.1–2.6 s recycle, TCM, 2.4 GHz X. |
| On X2D II | Same as V1-N: shoe protocol is Nikon; off-camera Godox is manual. Leaf shutter still syncs without needing HSS as the feature. |
| Vs SB-700 | Higher zoom GN, cheaper, not listed by Hasselblad. SB-700 is the official spare; this is the wattage spare. |
Why it fits the X2D II 100C. A 200 mm zoom head on a medium-format portrait at 1/2000 s is a lot of throw for ~$120. It is still a Nikon-foot speedlight, not a Hasselblad-native one. Four AA, rectangular beam, TCM if you lock a TTL pop into manual on the gun itself. Stay on mechanical shutter. If you only ever bounce off a white ceiling, the V1-N’s round head is the better spend; this is the budget when the SB-700’s street price looks like a lens filter.
Skip this if you want the printed Nikon name — SB-700. Skip TT685II-F because the X-E5 lives on a different site URL.
- Real GN at 200 mm
- N-foot, not a dummy pin
- Street price under a used SB-5000
- AA recycle at full power
- Not on Hasselblad’s list

If You Need Something Else
These are not cheaper SB-700s. One is on Hasselblad’s Profoto line if — and only if — firmware is old. One is the listed flagship Speedlight people buy for radio AWL this body cannot do.
Profoto A10 for Nikon View on Amazon View on B&H
| Hasselblad FAQ | A10 and A1 in TTL; remotes Connect Pro, Connect, Air Remote TTL |
|---|---|
| Profoto 25 Aug 2026 | No Hasselblad TTL collab. Latest Nikon firmware drops Hasselblad TTL. A10 rollback: C7 via USB. Connect / Connect Pro: service-station previous firmware (lose Multi-Pop / cycling). |
| Buy | A10 for Nikon. Not A10 for Canon. Not A2 as a substitute Hasselblad never printed. |
This is the studio/on-camera hybrid Hasselblad still names. It is also the product Profoto will not support on current firmware. If an A10 already talks TTL to the II, do not update it. If you are buying new in 2026, assume B4-class firmware until the seller confirms C7 — or use it as a round-head manual / Air manual light and meter. Connect Pro is a Nikon-foot Air remote, not a “Connect Pro for Hasselblad” SKU. Manual Profoto, Elinchrom, or Bowens via center pin still get the leaf-shutter sync; they just do not get i-TTL.
Skip this if you need a new-in-box TTL gun that will still meter after the next Profoto updater. That is the SB-700.

Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight View on Amazon View on B&H
| Hasselblad list | Yes — TTL on the shoe |
|---|---|
| Nikon radio AWL | WR-R10 / WR-R11 / WR-R11b on a Nikon body. The II has a hot shoe and a shutter-control port. It is not a Z9. |
| Supply | Nikon Japan suspended SB-5000 orders in January 2023. Cooling and 24–200 mm zoom are real; availability is used/NOS. |
On-camera i-TTL can still be a reason to own one if it is already in the bag. Buying it in 2026 as “the radio flash for X2D II” repeats the Z-body mistake: radio AWL is a Nikon-body feature. Optical commander tricks assume other Nikon Speedlights in line of sight, not Godox AD200s. For cooling during a 100-pop bracket, a V1-N Li-ion pack is the shoppable answer. For listed TTL without a firmware hostage, SB-700.
Skip this if the listing leads with “radio AWL / WR-R11b.” That kit is for a different camera.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the X2D II 100C have a built-in flash?
No. The kit is a body, one 3400 mAh cell, a USB-C cable, a strap, and (outside Europe) a 30 W charger. The shoe is TTL-capable. Nothing pops up.
Will flash fire with the electronic shutter?
No. Hasselblad: mechanical shutter only. The electronic shutter is a rolling 100 MP readout; a flash burst cannot light the whole frame. The camera does not throw a useful error at the moment of exposure — the gun just stays dark. Switch to the leaf shutter in the XCD (or HC/HCD) lens.
What sync speed does the II actually have?
On XCD glass, flash syncs at every mechanical shutter speed that lens offers — often 1/2000 s, 1/4000 s on some V/E shutters. That is why this page does not sell HSS as the feature. HC/HCD via adapter is slower (up to 1/800 s or 1/2000 s). Rear sync exists in the Flash Settings menu; the leaf opens as a whole, so “rear curtain” is not a focal-plane curtain travelling across the sensor.
Does Profoto TTL still work on Hasselblad?
Hasselblad’s FAQ still names A10, A1, Connect Pro, Connect, and Air Remote TTL. Profoto’s August 2026 support note says they have no Hasselblad TTL product, and current Nikon firmware drops Hasselblad TTL. A10 can be rolled back to C7. Connect Pro needs a service-station old firmware. Do not update a working kit.
Does Nikon radio AWL or Godox wireless TTL work?
Radio AWL needs a Nikon WR-R transmitter in a Nikon body. Godox 2.4 GHz TTL is a Godox-camera handshake; there is no Hasselblad X protocol. On-camera Nikon-foot TTL is the official path (SB-700 and the other listed Speedlights) or a community path (Godox N-foot on the shoe). Off-camera: manual radio, optical slave, or a center-pin trigger.
Final Verdict
For most Hasselblad X2D II 100C kits, put a Nikon SB-700 in the shoe, stay on the leaf shutter, and ignore HSS shopping copied from a 1/200 body. Want lithium and a round head? V1-N, knowing Godox radio is manual on this camera. Want zoom GN on AA? TT685II-N. Freeze Profoto firmware or skip A10 as a 2026 TTL default. Do not buy an SB-5000 for WR-R radio, and do not hunt a pop-up that was never in the box.
