According to NR,the next DSLR camera from Nikon will be Nikon D7200, not the long rumored Nikon D400.
Instead of Nikon D400, the rumored Nikon D7200 could have a specs list to replace Nikon D300S, so rumored Nikon D400 may never come out.
The D7200 could also once and for all kill the DX PRO line (D300s) depending on the included specs and features (if we get a big enough buffer and few extra direct manual controls, we can assume that the D400 will never come out).
Release date for Nikon D7200 will around Photokina 2014.

Seems like we might already be there with the D7100?
No wonder Canon is beating the Hell out of Nikon in the professional and non-professional markets… I just bought a FUJI and am planning to sell my D300s, and buy either another Fuji X or a Canon 5 Mk III. I’m sick of Nikon’s BS !
If the supposedly Nikon D7200 does indeed come out and has the improved specs list to replace the D300s who cares what it is called it will be the new pro X line
I hope not…..it will most likely not have the rugged build weather and dust sealed body, so for me it will definitly not replace a D400, No matter what specs you give it. Besides that, the grip of a DXXXX is totally different compared to a DXXX or DX series….
D7x00 are weather/dust sealed bodies.
Nikon’s biggest marketing flaw was/is not to launch the D400. Amen!
Am getting pretty fed up with Nikon’s non-communication but I guess that lies deeply rooted within the Japanese culture…
Its DX for crying out loud…. DX will never come close to FX and therefor is not Professional level. Why the hell do you still want a D400. If you own DX glass then get the d7100 or wait for D7200 but stop crying about a tougher built DX camera.
The D7xxx line is definitely NOT a Pro DX Series Camera. Hold a D300s and a D7x00 in your hand and if you have a pro or serious enthusiast you will notice a big difference!
When will Nikon realize that there’s an even bigger demand for high-end DSLRs, with specific reference to the D400 / D7200, that’s probably been overdue for the last year or so (if not longer). Their ignorance, or just plain stupidity, is beyond me. How many times have they (Nikon) released low / entry level DSLRs while the market is already flooded with those kinds of point-and-shoot cameras, but neglect the worldwide demand for a true flagship DX DSLR (D400). It’s like denying that there never was a problem with the D600 – the problem was there, but Nikon just chose to ignore it. The demand for the D400 / D7200 is there, they just couldn’t give a rats a$$.
