According to Canon Rumors, a new source told them that a new superzoom lens is currently in development.
This new lens will replace the current EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens. EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens is a big and heavy all-in-one zoom lens from Canon. According to the source, the new version lens will get a significant weight reduction and to make the lens wider, possibly to 24mm. If Canon uses the diffractive optics, the weight could be definitely reduced, but price may raised.
