Best ND Filters for Sony a7CR (2026): 61MP Compact, HDMI RAW, No eND
The Sony a7CR (ILCE-7CR) puts a 61-megapixel full-frame sensor in the a7C body and still has no internal ND. HDMI RAW is on this camera; it is not on the a7C II. 4K60 is Super 35 only. A 61MP still at ISO 100 and a 1-second river need more than a travel 2–5. The 2026 first buy is the PolarPro Peter McKinnon Edition II Variable ND 6–9 Stop in 82 mm.

How We Picked
Three official facts decide the glass. Everything else is a pairing.
- 61MP, HDMI RAW, no internal ND. ILCE-7CR lists 61.0-megapixel stills, HDMI RAW output, Pixel Shift 4/16, IBIS 7.0 stops, and no electronic ND. The a7C II in the same chassis does not offer HDMI RAW. (Sony ILCE-7CR specifications)
- 4K60 is Super 35 only. Sony’s product footnote: 4K 60/50p is Super 35. Full-width 4K is 30p and below. The crop is not extra ND. (Sony UK a7CR — 4K 60/50p note)
- ISO 100–32000 (stills and movies). Native stills start at ISO 100. Long exposures at 61MP and S-Log3 in sun both run past a 2–5. Pixel Shift needs a static frame — it is not ND. (Sony ISO / Pixel Shift listing)

| Range | 6–9 stops |
|---|---|
| Thread | 82 mm |
| Best for | 61MP long stills + S-Log3 noon |
The a7CR is an R-series sensor in a compact shell. The first ND is 6–9 for long stills and S-Log3, not the a7C II travel 2–5.
Sony’s ILCE-7CR specification lists 61.0-megapixel stills (9504×6336), movies up to about 50.8 megapixels, ISO 100–32000 (50–102400 expanded stills), HDMI RAW output, Pixel Shift Multi Shooting (4 or 16 shots), and IBIS rated 7.0 stops. Weight with battery is about 515 g (430 g body only). There is no electronic ND. Sony’s own product note: 4K 60/50p is Super 35 only. Full-width 4K is 30p and below.
That is not the a7C II article. The a7C II is 33MP, no HDMI RAW, and a 2–5 first buy for travel video at ISO 100. The a7CR’s first job is 61MP water, clouds, and city blur at ISO 100 on a tripod — plus S-Log3 / HDMI RAW when the same GM II zoom is wide open at noon. Five stops run out. Pixel Shift is a separate, static-scene mode; it is not a substitute for ND and it cannot tolerate a moving river.
82 mm is still FE 24–70 GM II / 16–35 GM II / 70–200 GM II. The kit 28–60 is 40.5 mm. Do not make 40.5 mm the 61MP filter. A cheap crossed-polarizer X is obvious at 61MP.
- 6–9 matches 61MP long stills and S-Log3 / HDMI RAW in daylight
- Hard stops; 82 mm GM II — same ring as an a7R V / a7R VI kit
- CinemaSeries glass is the right quality bet on a 61MP file
- Too dark for S-Cinetone ISO 100 interiors — that is the 2–5 in Layer 2
- Overkill on the 40.5 mm kit 28–60

| Thread | 82 mm |
| Best for | Fine Tuning on 61MP stills |
True Color 6–9 for 61MP JPEGs and HEIFs when PolarPro’s Edition II price is the blocker.
The a7CR is often a stills camera that also records 10-bit 4K. NiSi’s Fine Tuning marks 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 for a 1-second street or a 1/50 S-Log3 sidewalk. True Color matters on a 61MP Creative Look / HEIF more than on a 12MP vlog body. Same 82 mm thread as PolarPro.
- True Color on 61MP stills
- Fine Tuning detents
- Same 82 mm GM thread
- Silver lever in a compact sling
- Still need a 2–5 for ISO 100 video in shade

| Thread | 82 mm |
| Best for | First 6–9 on a compact R-body |
A first 6–9 for 61MP daylight. Confirm KF01.1856. Stay off the last ½ stop — this sensor will record the X.
KF01.1856 is the 82 mm Nano-X 6–9. On a 33MP a7C II the X is ugly. On 61MP it is a ruined file. Do not buy ND2–32 as the only a7CR filter if long stills are the reason this body beat the a7C II.
- Correct 6–9 range for the R-sensor job
- 82 mm GM thread
- No hard stops on a 61MP stills body
- ND2–400 listings sit next to this SKU

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same ND kit as the a7C II?
No. Same 82 mm thread and the same PolarPro SKUs exist, but the a7C II starts on 2–5 (33MP travel). The a7CR starts on 6–9 (61MP long stills + HDMI RAW). Do not copy the a7C II Overall.
Does the a7CR have HDMI RAW?
Yes. Sony lists RAW output over HDMI. The a7C II does not. HDMI RAW still has no ND in the cable.
Does Pixel Shift replace an ND filter?
No. Pixel Shift (4 or 16 shots) needs a static scene and a tripod. Moving water — the usual ND still — will ghost. Use ND for motion blur; use Pixel Shift for resolution on still subjects.
Is 4K60 full-frame on the a7CR?
No. 4K 60/50p is Super 35 only, same family note as the a7C II. Full-width 4K is 30p and below.
Why 82 mm on a compact body?
GM II zooms that use the 61MP sensor are 82 mm. The kit 28–60 is 40.5 mm — a different, smaller job.
Will an a7R V 82 mm PolarPro 6–9 fit?
Yes. Same thread. The a7CR-specific facts are the compact body, Super 35 4K60, and HDMI RAW in this chassis — not a new diameter.
Final Verdict
The a7CR is a 61MP compact full-frame with HDMI RAW, Pixel Shift, Super 35 4K60, and no internal ND. It is not the a7C II. Start with the PolarPro 6–9 82 mm. Use NiSi 6–9 for True Color stills. Use K&F KF01.1856 as the cheap 6–9. Add a 2–5 for ISO 100 travel video. Do not treat Pixel Shift as ND.
