Why it fits the R8 Mark II. B&H lists the Multi-Function Shoe and a 3.5 mm jack. DM-E1D uses the shoe Canon designed for digital accessories: lock, no cable, no AA tray. 136 g on a 499 g body is a cinema add, not a second handle. It occupies the shoe — you cannot park a Speedlite on the same foot. For on-camera talk-to-lens 4K60, that is the point.
AP still calls LP-E17 a small cell. 0.11 W is Canon’s figure, not a CIPA rewrite. Carry the spare LP-E17 if the shoe mic shares a long video day.

Why it is Value. Interviews are not an on-camera shotgun problem. GO II leaves the Multi-Function Shoe free for a flash or empty, and dumps analog into the 3.5 mm input. Dual channel, clip-on transmitters, onboard backup if you walk out of range. The camera headphone jack monitors that analog feed.
