Best Lenses for Hasselblad X2D II 100C
The Hasselblad X2D II 100C is not a first-gen X2D shopping list with AF-C taped on. Continuous AF exists, and it only exists on a short XCD list, with current lens firmware, on the mechanical leaf shutter. Electronic shutter greys it out. The 2026 one-lens kit Hasselblad actually bundles with this body is the XCD 2,8-4/35-100E — 28–76 mm full-frame equivalent, AF-C, 1/4000 s leaf, 86 mm filters. It is not the old XCD 3,5-4,5/35-75 on sale, and it is not the 20-35E ultra-wide zoom, which does not get AF-C.

Equivalents are Hasselblad’s 24×36 figures. AF-C needs current lens firmware and the mechanical shutter. 90V / 55V / 75P are on the same AF-C list; they are covered on the portrait page, not as a second Top 3 here.
How We Picked These Lenses
- X2D II 100C sheet: 100 MP BSI, 43.8 × 32.9 mm, AF-C + LiDAR, 425 PDAF, IBIS 10-stop centre / 8-stop edges (CIPA, XCD 3,5/120 Macro). No video. Flash and AF-C are mechanical-leaf only. H / V / XPan need Hasselblad converters; third-party adapters are e-shutter only. In-lens corrections currently XCD-only, not HC/HCD.
- The AF-C FAQ (as of the II launch FAQ, still the list): 35-100E, 38V, 55V, 25V, 90V, 28P, 75P, latest firmware, not with electronic shutter. Hasselblad’s 35-100E page: AF-C pairing “only supported on X2D II 100C.” Medium Format Forum copy of support: other XCD will not gain AF-C later. 20-35E is the other E zoom and stays grey. Capture Integration: V/P pack firmware 1.9.7 class; older 21 / 30 / 45 / 65 / 80 / 90 / 120 / 135 stay on 0.6.x AF-S.
- What Hasselblad sells next to the II: NA store: 35-100E $4,599 (28–76 mm-e, 894 g, 86 mm, ~3× / 2.86× actual, 16/13, control ring, 1/4000 s). 38V $3,699 (30 mm-e, 350 g, 72 mm, 10/9 with 3 aspherical, 0.30 m, CP.HB.00000719.01). 28P $1,679 (22 mm-e, 245 g, 72 mm, “lightweight wide-angle street”). 25V $3,699 if you need 20 mm-e at f/2.5. 20-35E $5,929 if you need 16 mm-e and accept AF-S. 45P $1,099 is the cheap daily P — and it is not on the AF-C list.

Hasselblad XCD 2,8-4/35-100E View on Amazon View on B&H
| SKU | XCD 2,8-4/35-100E. Not XCD 3,5-4,5/35-75. Not 20-35E. |
|---|---|
| Hasselblad sheet | Actual 36–97 mm class; 28–76 mm (24×36). f/2.8–32 (f/4–32 at the long end). 76° / 64° / 50° wide; 31° / 25° / 19° tele. 138 mm (178 mm extended) × 90 mm. 894 g without caps/shade. 86 mm. 16 elements / 13 groups. Internal focus. 1/4000 s leaf, flash at all speeds. Min ~0.4 m wide / 0.5 m tele. 1:8 / 1:4. |
| On X2D II | AF-C list; Hasselblad: AF-C on this zoom is II-only. Control ring counts toward the eight custom controls. Mechanical shutter. |
| Street | $4,599 NA. II + 35-100E is a factory bundle. Filters are 86 mm, not 72 mm. |
Why it fits the X2D II 100C. The II’s new trick is tracking a subject at 3 fps with 206 MB 3FR files. A 38V does that at 30 mm-e. This zoom does it from moderate wide to a 76 mm-e short tele without a bag swap. Hasselblad sold the old 35-75 as the travel zoom; this one is longer, faster at the wide end, lighter than that 1,115 g 35-75, and it is the E zoom they put on the AF-C FAQ. It will not match a 90V at f/2.5 for heads — that is the portrait page. 894 g on an 840 g body (with battery) is a two-hand walkaround, not a 350 g 38V. Update firmware; CI documented standby-AF misses with this zoom on early II firmware.
Skip this if you want 350 g on the street — 38V. Skip 20-35E because the listing says “E zoom” and you assumed AF-C. Skip the 35-75 sale banner as an II kit lens.
- Only AF-C zoom
- 28–76 mm-e covers walkaround to short tele
- 1/4000 s leaf
- 894 g, 86 mm filters
- f/4 at 100 mm is not a 90V

Hasselblad XCD 2,5/38V View on Amazon View on B&H
| SKU | XCD 2,5/38V (CP.HB.00000719.01). V-series control ring + push/pull AF-MF. Not XCD 3,5/45. Not 45P. |
|---|---|
| Hasselblad sheet | 30 mm (24×36). f/2.5–32. 70° / 59° / 46°. 68 × 76 mm, 350 g. 72 mm. 0.30 m. 1:6.2. 10/9, 3 aspherical. Leaf to 1/2000 s. |
| On X2D II | AF-C list. Custom ring. $3,699 — $900 under the 35-100E, a third of the weight. |
| Vs 55V | 55V is 43 mm-e documentary (portrait page). 38V is the wider everyday. Same price, same 72 mm. |
Why it fits the X2D II 100C. Hasselblad’s own line is travel, street, photojournalism. 30 mm-e on 4:3 is a wide-normal, not a 28 mm-e phone. f/2.5 plus 10-stop IBIS is the indoor available-light case the 28P’s f/4 does not cover. 350 g is why this is Value against a $4,599 zoom: you keep AF-C and you keep the body carrying like an X body. Leaf is 1/2000 s — enough for most fill, not the 25V/90V/35-100E 1/4000 s club. 72 mm means one filter stack with 28P / 55V / 90V / 75P / 25V.
Skip this if the kit must zoom — 35-100E. Skip 45P at $1,099 as an AF-C 38V substitute; it is not on the FAQ.
- Lightest V, AF-C, f/2.5
- 72 mm shared with most of the modern kit
- $900 cheaper than the E zoom
- 1/2000 s leaf, not 1/4000 s
- 30 mm-e is not a portrait tele

Hasselblad XCD 4/28P View on Amazon View on B&H
| SKU | XCD 4/28P. Lightweight wide-angle street lens. Not 25V. Not 20-35E. |
|---|---|
| Hasselblad / CI sheet | 22 mm (24×36). f/4. 89° diagonal. 48 × 75 mm, 245 g. 72 mm. ~0.22 m. 9/8. Leaf to 1/4000 s. $1,679 NA. |
| On X2D II | AF-C list. No V control ring. Battery-life footnote on the II datasheet used this lens for CIPA 327 / 466 — it is the optic Hasselblad clocks endurance with, not a reason to skip a 38V. |
| Vs 25V | 25V is 20 mm-e, f/2.5, 592 g, $3,699, also AF-C. Buy 25V when 22 mm-e / f/4 is not wide or fast enough. Do not buy 20-35E just to get 16 mm-e and AF-C — you will not get AF-C. |
Why it fits the X2D II 100C. It is the inexpensive door onto the AF-C list. 245 g on the II is a pocket wide. f/4 is the tax; 10-stop IBIS makes that usable handheld in a way a 2022 X2D 7-stop body did not. 1/4000 s leaf is faster than the 38V. 72 mm keeps you on the V/P filter. If the job is night interiors at 20 mm-e, that is the 25V, not a hope that this P will become f/2.5.
Skip this if 30 mm-e f/2.5 is the daily — 38V. Skip 45P as Budget AF-C; it is not on the sheet.
- Cheapest AF-C XCD
- 245 g, 72 mm, 1/4000 s
- 22 mm-e street wide
- f/4, P build, no control ring
- Not 16 mm-e

If You Need Something Else
These are not cheaper 35-100Es. One is the AF-C 20 mm-e V. One is the $5,929 E zoom that does not get Continuous AF.
Hasselblad XCD 2,5/25V View on Amazon View on B&H
| Need | 20 mm-e, f/2.5, AF-C, 72 mm, 1/4000 s. Hasselblad: night / interior wide. 592 g, 0.25 m, $3,699. |
|---|---|
| Vs 28P | Two millimetres-e and a stop, 347 g extra, $2,000 extra. Same AF-C list. |
| Vs 20-35E | The zoom goes to 16 mm-e and stays AF-S. The 25V stays AF-C. |
Buy this when 28P is not wide or not fast. It shares 72 mm with the 38V. Hasselblad’s II IBIS footnote for handheld seconds used a 25V — that is a stills claim, not video. De-click control ring is on 25V / 90V, not 38V / 55V; the II still does not record movies.
Skip this if 22 mm-e f/4 covers the street — 28P.

Hasselblad XCD 3,2-4,5/20-35E View on Amazon View on B&H
| Look | 16–27 mm-e, 805 g, 77 mm, 1/2000 s, $5,929. The only native path to ~16 mm-e. |
|---|---|
| X2D II | Not on the AF-C FAQ. Owners report AF-C stays grey after lens firmware. Hasselblad: will not be added later. |
| Buy it for | AF-S ultra-wide architecture / landscape. Not as the “other E zoom that must do what 35-100E does.” |
If the reason you bought the II was subject detection on a walking frame, this is the wrong E. 25V + 38V on 72 mm is the AF-C wide pair. 20-35E is money and 77 mm filters for AF-S.
Skip this if AF-C is the point of the body.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which XCD lenses do AF-C on the X2D II 100C?
Hasselblad: 35-100E, 38V, 55V, 25V, 90V, 28P, 75P, latest firmware, mechanical shutter only. 20-35E, 45P, 80/1.9, 90/3.2, 120 Macro, 135, 21 / 30 / 45 / 65 originals, and the old 35-75 zoom are outside that list.
Is the 38V or the 35-100E the better first lens?
35-100E if the kit is one lens and the subject moves through 28–76 mm-e. 38V if you want 350 g, f/2.5, and 72 mm filters. Both are AF-C. The zoom is $900 more and 544 g heavier. Heads at 71 mm-e still want the 90V on the portrait page.
Does the XCD 20-35E do AF-C?
No. It is an E-series zoom. It is not on the FAQ. Electronic shutter is also not a workaround — AF-C is off there too.
Is the XCD 45P a budget AF-C everyday lens?
No. $1,099 and 36 mm-e look like a 38V substitute. It is not on the AF-C list. The cheap AF-C wide is 28P.
Can adapted Canon, Nikon, or Sony lenses run AF-C?
Third-party adapters are e-shutter only. E-shutter disables AF-C and flash. H / V / XPan need Hasselblad’s converters and are still not the AF-C FAQ set. In-lens corrections are XCD-only.
Final Verdict
For most Hasselblad X2D II 100C kits, start with the XCD 35-100E if you want one AF-C zoom, or the XCD 38V if you want the 350 g everyday prime. Add the 28P when you need AF-C wide at $1,679. Put 90V / 55V / 75P on the portrait page. Skip the 20-35E and the 45P if Continuous AF is why you bought the II. Stay on the leaf shutter.
