Best ND Filters for GoPro HERO13 Black (2026): HB-Series Auto-Detect
The GoPro HERO13 Black is the first HERO with HB-Series lenses that the camera auto-detects. GoPro’s own ND Filter 4-Pack (AENDF-001) is ND4, ND8, ND16, and ND32. Snap one on and the body switches into ND / Auto Cinematic. That is not a 67 mm screw-in, and it is not a HERO12 filter that happens to clip. The 2026 first buy is the official GoPro HB-Series ND 4-Pack.

How We Picked
Three official facts decide the glass. Everything else is a pairing.
- HB-Series auto-detect is official. HERO13 detects ND mods and enters ND Filter mode. Auto Cinematic / suggested filter are GoPro features, not a third-party clip-on trick. (GoPro: HERO13 Black ND Filters Settings and Modes)
- AENDF-001 is ND4 / 8 / 16 / 32. Official 4-pack, waterproof when installed, Auto 180° shutter available for advanced users. GoPro maps ND4→sunset, ND8→golden hour, ND16→afternoon, ND32→bright sun. (GoPro ND Filter 4-Pack)
- Not a screw-in; not HERO12 HB. HB-Series is HERO13. Media Mod compatibility does not include ND. 10-bit HLG HDR does not replace ND4–32 for motion blur. (GoPro HERO13 Black — HB-Series)

GoPro ND Filter 4-Pack — Smart Motion Blur (AENDF-001) View on Amazon View on B&H
| Range | ND4 / 8 / 16 / 32 (2–5 stops) |
|---|---|
| Mount | HB-Series (HERO13 only) |
| Best for | Auto-detect 180° shutter |
HERO13 ND is an HB-Series accessory with auto-detect. The official 4-pack is the only kit that drives Auto Cinematic the way GoPro documents it.
GoPro’s HERO13 Black support article: ND filters let the camera use slower shutters; the kit is ND4, ND8, ND16, ND32; the camera auto-detects HB-Series mods and switches to ND Filter mode. The product page (AENDF-001) adds Auto Cinematic video mode, optional Auto 180° shutter, scratch-resistant glass, and waterproof when installed. GoPro’s own starting map: ND4 late sunset, ND8 golden/blue hour, ND16 afternoon, ND32 bright sun.
Third-party HERO9–13 clip-ons (Freewell, K&F) physically fit the older round front. They do not register as HB-Series mods. You set shutter and ISO yourself. That is a valid Value / Budget path. It is not the HERO13-specific feature this body was sold on.
Do not buy PolarPro Edition II 82 mm, a 67 mm VND, or a HERO12-only pack as the first HERO13 ND. Media Mod still fits HERO13; it does not add ND. HLG HDR and 10-bit do not replace a 5-stop filter at 1/48 in noon sun.
- Auto-detect + Auto Cinematic — the HERO13 reason to buy ND at all
- ND4–32 covers 2–5 stops, the action-cam daylight range
- Waterproof when installed; official SKU AENDF-001
- HERO13 only — not a gift for a HERO12 in the same bag
- Four discrete filters, not a variable ring — swap when the light changes

Freewell HERO13 Standard Day ND 4-Pack (ND4–32) View on Amazon View on B&H
| Range | ND4 / 8 / 16 / 32 |
|---|---|
| Mount | HERO9–13 clip-on |
| Best for | Same stops, no auto-detect |
The same four densities without HB auto-detect. Use it when one kit has to serve a HERO12 and a HERO13.
Freewell SKU FW-H13B-STD is ND4, ND8, ND16, ND32 for HERO13 through HERO9. That cross-generation fit is the Value argument. Set 180° shutter in Pro Controls yourself — the body will not switch to Auto Cinematic when this pack clicks on. Freewell’s Bright Day (FW-H13B-BRG) is ND/PL if water glare is the job; All Day (FW-H13B-PRO) is the 11-pack. Standard Day is the ND-only match for AENDF-001’s stops.
- ND4–32 at a lower price
- Works on HERO12/11/10/9 in the same bag
- No HB auto-detect
- Not the waterproof-when-installed official seal GoPro documents for AENDF-001

K&F Concept HERO13 Variable ND Set (ND2–32 + ND32–512) View on Amazon View on B&H
| Range | 2–5 and 5–9 stops (two VNDs) |
|---|---|
| Mount | HERO9–13 clip-on |
| Best for | One variable instead of four disks |
Two variable clip-ons when swapping ND8 for ND16 on a trail is the pain. Not HB auto-detect.
SKU.2190 is K&F’s HERO13/12/11/10/9 variable pair: ND2–32 and ND32–512. A variable on a helmet is easy to knock off a stop. Use it for a chest mount or a cage, not as a substitute for AENDF-001 on a surf housing. Stay off the last ½ stop of each ring to avoid the X. The ND32–512 half is more than most HERO13 daylight needs — ND2–32 is the working filter.
- No filter-swapping mid-run
- Low price
- No auto-detect
- Variable ring vs a bouncing mount

Frequently Asked Questions
Will HERO12 ND filters auto-detect on HERO13?
Older round clip-ons may physically fit. They do not register as HB-Series mods. Auto Cinematic is documented for GoPro’s HB ND pack (AENDF-001).
Is AENDF-001 waterproof?
GoPro rates the filters waterproof when installed. That is not a housing. Confirm the official wording for diving.
ND16 or ND32 for noon?
GoPro’s own map: ND32 for bright sun, ND16 for afternoon. Start there in Auto Cinematic, then lock 180° in Pro Controls if needed.
Can a 67 mm VND be adapted?
Not as a first HERO13 ND. This is an HB-Series / clip-on problem, not a step-up-ring problem.
Does Media Mod include ND?
No. Media Mod adds mics / HDMI / lights. ND is a separate HB filter pack.
Why not PolarPro Edition II?
Wrong mount. Edition II is a screw-in for interchangeable lenses. HERO13 wants HB or a HERO clip-on.
Final Verdict
HERO13 ND is an HB-Series accessory with auto-detect. Start with GoPro AENDF-001 (ND4/8/16/32). Use Freewell FW-H13B-STD if a HERO12 has to share the kit. Use K&F SKU.2190 if a variable clip-on beats four disks. Do not buy 67 mm or 82 mm glass for this body, and do not expect third-party clips to drive Auto Cinematic.
