Why it is Value here. An SB-5000 plus WR‑R11a is about $760 before a second remote. The V1Pro N is i-TTL on the Z8 shoe, Auto FP/HSS, and a 2.4 GHz master for Godox remotes with no extra transceiver. Round head, AK-R1 magnets, SU-1 for bounce fill. The old page buried it under “third-party” and invented an HSS bug as if it were unique to Godox — HSS guide-number loss is Auto FP physics on Nikon too. Firmware via USB-C. Buy N, not C or S.

Why not the SB-500 as Budget. The old page used the SB-500 because it is Nikon and has an LED. On a Z8 the SB-500 is the small unified-control Speedlight (see below), not the cheapest TTL+HSS+radio. The TT685II-N is GN 60, TCM, 20–200 mm zoom, and an X-system master/slave. NiMH AAs make 1/1 recycle the limitation. Same N-mount warning.
Skip this if you wanted camera-menu control or a video LED. That is the SB-500 row. Skip TT685 (non-II) and any C mount.

Yes. The shutter is electronic with shutter sound and a sensor shield. Flash still syncs at 1/250 or 1/200 s. It will not fire in silent mode, video, or high-speed frame capture + (C15/C30/C60/C120).
1/250 s or 1/200 s?
Nikon allows both; the guide number drops between 1/200 and 1/250 s. For daylight fill at f/1.2 you want e1 [1/250 s (Auto FP)] or [1/200 s (Auto FP)] so the camera can go to 1/8000 s. Auto FP can show banding; slow down or drop power.
Do I need a WR‑R11a if the SB-5000 is on the camera?
