Best ND Filters for Sony FX30 (2026): Super 35, Cine EI, No eND
The Sony FX30 (ILME-FX30) is a Super 35 Cinema Line camera with Dual Base ISO 800 / 2500, Cine EI, and no electronic ND. The FX3 in the same lineup has eND. This body does not. Cine EI at ISO 800 in daylight is a 6–9 problem on APS-C glass. The 2026 first buy is the PolarPro Peter McKinnon Edition II Variable ND 6–9 Stop in 67 mm — not an 82 mm full-frame.

How We Picked
Three official facts decide the glass. Everything else is a pairing.
- No electronic ND (FX3 has one). ILME-FX30 is Cinema Line Super 35. Sony documents Dual Base, Cine EI, and HDMI RAW. It does not document a built-in ND wheel. The BIG6 screen’s ND field is for attached filters / metadata, not an internal stack. (Sony FX30 Cinema Line features)
- Dual Base ISO 800 / 2500 + Cine EI. Official Dual Base is ISO 800 and ISO 2500. Cine EI / Cine EI Quick / Flexible ISO are the three S-Log3 modes. Daylight Cine EI 800 is a 6–9 job. ISO 2500 is the low-light native. (Sony FX30 Dual Base / Cine EI)
- 4K60 from 6K; 4K120 with a 1.6× crop; 16-bit HDMI RAW. None of those paths add ND. 120 fps still wants ~1/250. (B&H FX30 specification summary)

Cinema Line Super 35 without eND. Dual Base 800/2500 means the first ring is 6–9 in 67 mm.
Sony’s FX30 pages list a Super 35 / APS-C Exmor R sensor, Dual Base ISO 800 and 2500, Cine EI / Cine EI Quick / Flexible ISO, 14+ stops of latitude in S-Log3, 4K oversampled from 6K up to 60p, 4K120 with a 1.6× crop, 10-bit 4:2:2, and 16-bit RAW over HDMI Type-A. The BIG6 home screen even has an ND Filter field — it is there because Cinema Line expects ND. The FX30 does not have a wheel. The FX3 does.
Cine EI at ISO 800, 24p, 1/50, T/2.8 in hard sun is more than five stops. A 2–5 is a Flexible ISO / S-Cinetone tool, not the default. 67 mm is the Super 35 zoom thread (16–55 G, Sigma 18–50, 10–18 / 10–20 with a step-up). Full-frame 82 mm GM glass works in Super 35 with a crop; it is not the first FX30 buy unless that is the only lens in the case.
Dual Base ISO 2500 is the low-light native, not a noon setting. Switching to 2500 outdoors to “use less ND” just raises the noise floor. Keep 800 and turn the 6–9. 4K120’s 1.6× crop does not add stops; 120 fps wants ~1/250.
- 6–9 matches Cine EI ISO 800 in daylight
- 67 mm is the Super 35 zoom thread — not an 82 mm from an FX5 kit
- Hard stops next to an FX3 that is using eND on the same set
- Too dark for S-Cinetone interiors — that is the 2–5
- Wrong first buy if the only lens is a 24–70 GM II (82 mm)

True Color 6–9 in 67 mm when the FX30 has to sit next to an FX3 / FX6 on s709.
The FX30 imports LUTs and ships s709 among the preview looks. A cheap VND that goes yellow shows up on the BIG6 monitor before it shows up in Resolve. NiSi’s 6–9 True Color is the Value alternative to PolarPro in the same stop range and the same 67 mm thread. Fine Tuning marks the Cine EI 800 sidewalk.
- True Color for LUT preview
- Fine Tuning on 6–9
- 67 mm Super 35 zooms
- Lever vs cage
- Still need a 2–5 for Flexible ISO interiors

Cheap 6–9 in 67 mm. Confirm KF01.1854 and ND64–512. ND2–400 is the wrong listing.
KF01.1854 is the 67 mm Nano-X 6–9. It is the filter to put on a 16–55 G when the FX30 is in Cine EI 800 and the budget is not PolarPro. Stay off the last ½ stop. This does not become eND when you walk indoors — pull the filter or switch to Flexible ISO.
- Correct 67 mm 6–9 SKU
- Cine EI 800 daylight range
- No hard stops
- Search results mix this with ND2–32 67 mm

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the FX30 have the FX3’s electronic ND?
No. No. The FX3 (ILME-FX3) has electronic ND. The FX30 (ILME-FX30) does not. The BIG6 ND field is not a built-in filter.
Why 67 mm instead of 82 mm?
Super 35 zooms (16–55 G, 18–50) are 67 mm. 82 mm is full-frame GM glass used with a crop. Buy the thread that is on the lens.
Why 6–9 as Overall when the a6700 article said 2–5?
The a6700 is a stills hybrid at ISO 100. The FX30 is Cinema Line Cine EI at ISO 800. Same 26MP-class sensor family, different default exposure.
Can Dual Base ISO 2500 replace ND?
No. 2500 is the low-light native. Using it in noon sun just lifts the noise floor. Stay at 800 and turn the 6–9.
Will an a6700 67 mm PolarPro 6–9 fit?
Yes. Same thread. The FX30-specific fact is Cine EI 800/2500 and no eND, not a new diameter.
Is 4K120 full Super 35?
4K120 on the FX30 uses a 1.6× crop. 4K60 is the 6K-oversampled Super 35 mode. Neither includes internal ND.
Final Verdict
The FX30 is Super 35 Cinema Line with Dual Base ISO 800/2500, Cine EI, 4K120, HDMI RAW, and no eND. Start with the PolarPro 6–9 67 mm. Use NiSi 6–9 for True Color / s709. Use K&F KF01.1854 as the cheap 6–9. Add a 2–5 for Flexible ISO and S-Cinetone. Do not copy the FX3 eND workflow or an 82 mm FX5 kit onto this body.
