Best Flash for Canon EOS R10
The Canon EOS R10 already has a pop-up flash — guide number 6 (ISO 100, meters) and about 5 s recycle. That is fill, not bounce. The first Speedlite for this multi-function shoe is not the Godox V860III-C. It is Canon Speedlite EL-10: 21-pin foot, GN 40, four AAs, radio sender/receiver. Check the EL-10 on Amazon.

How We Picked
Three sourced facts. The old version of this page led with Godox V860III-C and invented a field test. This rewrite uses Canon’s flash table, not that lab.
- Start from the pop-up, then the sync row. Canon Europe R10: built-in GN 6 (ISO 100, meters), coverage about 18 mm (29 mm equivalent), recycle about 5 s, X-sync 1/200 s mechanical and 1/250 s electronic first-curtain, flash photography is not available with electronic shutter, second-curtain sync on built-in and external Speedlites, multi-function shoe yes / PC terminal no. Canon USA: retractable flash, GN approx. 6 m / 19.7 ft, body 382 g / 429 g with battery and card. B&H 5331C002: built-in flash yes, GN 6 m at ISO 100, 23 fps electronic / 15 fps mechanical, LP-E17, 382.2 g / 429.2 g. Electronic 23 fps is the row that cannot fire a flash.
- Read the shoe, then firmware 1.3.0. Canon’s R10 multi-function shoe page: the shoe supplies power and extra communication; EL-1 / 600EX II-RT / ST-E3-RT / OC-E3 cannot mount directly — use AD-E1. Canon’s flash compatibility table (as of July 2026): EOS R10 firmware 1.3.0 or later lists Speedlite EL-5 and EL-10 as compatible. R10 firmware 1.3.0 added EL-5 support; automatic AF-assist-beam intensity adjustment is not supported. EL-10 and EL-5 use the 21-pin foot. EL-100 does not.
- Size the Speedlite to GN 6, not to a full-frame kit. Canon Europe EL-10: 21-pin multifunction shoe, GN 40 (ISO 100, meters), 4× AA (LR6 / HR6; no FR6 lithium), recycle about 0.1–2.5 s, 210–1400 flashes, radio about 30 m, sender and receiver, 287 g, 70.6 × 116.3 × 98.3 mm. That is bounce and Canon radio on a 429 g APS-C body. The V860III uses a conventional foot; this camera already has a GN 6 pop-up.

|---|---|
| Foot | 21-pin multi-function shoe — no AD-E1 |
| Guide number | 40 m at ISO 100 (105 mm coverage on the USA sheet) |
| Power | 4× AA · recycle approx. 0.1–2.5 s · 210–1400 flashes |
| Radio | Sender and receiver · approx. 30 m · 5 groups |
| Body hook | R10 firmware 1.3.0+ on Canon’s compatibility table |
Why it fits the R10. The pop-up is GN 6 and points forward. EL-10 is the compact Speedlite Canon built for this shoe: bounce head, catchlight panel, camera-menu button, AA cells that match a travel bag, radio so you can leave the pop-up down and still run a second light. It is not EL-5’s LP-EL pack, and it is not the V860III that ignored the 21-pin foot.

| Sync / radio | HSS up to 1/8000 s · 2.4 GHz X-system up to ~100 m / 328 ft |
| Battery | Rechargeable lithium-ion · up to ~480 full-power flashes |
Why it is Value. X-sync on this body is 1/200 or 1/250. Faster shutters need HSS, which the pop-up does not give you. V1-C is a round-head E-TTL II flash with Godox’s 2.4 GHz system in the foot, so the shoe stays a conventional TTL mount and the radio talks to other X lights. That is a different job from Canon’s 30 m EL radio, and a different SKU from V860III-C.

| Zoom / tilt | 20–200 mm · −7° to 120° · 330° rotate |
| Radio | 2.4 GHz X-system · master or slave · ~328 ft / 100 m |
Why it is Budget. Same AA count as EL-10, more guide number on paper, Godox radio instead of Canon radio. B&H lists HSS plus first- and second-curtain sync. A generic Neewer NW561 has no Canon compatibility table. TT685II-C is the named E-TTL II Speedlite you buy when EL-10 money goes to the body kit instead.

If You Need Something Else
Godox V860III-C was Overall on the old R10 flash page. EL-100 was Value. Neewer NW561 was Budget. None of those is the 21-pin EL-10. EL-5 is the larger multi-function Speedlite from the R8 list — GN 60 and LP-EL — if you already own it and the camera is on firmware 1.3.0.

Keep V860III-C if it already sits in the bag. Do not buy it as the R10 default. The default uses the pins Canon added on this shoe. Pair bounce days with a UHS-II V60 card so 15 fps mechanical bursts and the flash files share the single slot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why EL-10 instead of V860III-C
Canon’s accessory table lists EL-10 on the R10 multi-function shoe from firmware 1.3.0. The old page led with V860III-C after a fake endurance test. The pop-up is GN 6; EL-10 is the bounce Speedlite built for this foot.
Whether the built-in GN 6 is enough
Canon USA: about 6 m / 19.7 ft at ISO 100, 5 s recycle, 18 mm coverage. That is fill on the kit zoom, not ceiling bounce. Buy EL-10 when the head needs to tilt.
Why no flash in electronic shutter
Canon Europe: flash photography is not available with electronic shutter. B&H lists 23 fps on that shutter. Use mechanical 15 fps or electronic first-curtain at 1/250 sync.
Whether EL-5 needs firmware 1.3.0
Yes. Canon’s table and the 1.3.0 firmware note add EL-5. AF-assist-beam automatic intensity adjustment is not supported. EL-10 is the smaller 21-pin default on this body.
Whether older Speedlites need AD-E1
Canon’s R10 shoe page: EL-1, 600EX II-RT, ST-E3-RT, and OC-E3 do not mount directly. EL-10 and EL-5 use the multi-function foot. Godox V1-C / TT685II-C are conventional E-TTL II feet.
Final Verdict
For the EOS R10, buy Canon Speedlite EL-10. The pop-up is GN 6. Take V1-C when you want a round head and Godox radios, and TT685II-C when the budget is AA GN 60. Leave V860III-C, EL-100, and Neewer aside. Electronic shutter still does not fire a flash.
