Best Motherboard for GeForce RTX 5060
The GeForce RTX 5060 is an 8GB, PCIe 5.0 x8, 145W card. A B650 board with a Gen4 x16 slot trains that GPU down to 4.0 x8. For most AM5 builds, the board is the MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX WiFi.

PCIe 5.0 x16 PEG so the 5060 runs at native 5.0 x8. B850, not an X870E tax on a $300 GPU.

How We Picked These Boards
- The GPU: NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 is 8GB GDDR7 only — no 16GB SKU — on cut-down GB206 (3,840 CUDA, 145W TGP, 550W NVIDIA PSU floor). Bus is PCIe 5.0 x8. This page is not the 5060 Ti 16GB page. 1080p is the fit; 8GB is the limiter, not VRM on a B850.
- The slot: PCIe 5.0 x8 equals PCIe 4.0 x16 in bandwidth. A B650 Gen4 x16 slot still trains an eight-lane card to 4.0 x8 — half of native. TechPowerUp’s 5060 Ti x8 scaling (same GB206 bus) averaged a 2% 1080p drop on 4.0 x8 versus 5.0 x8 in raster. ComputerBase saw much larger 1% lows on the 8GB Ti when VRAM spilled and the link fell to 4.0. The 5060 is 8GB-only, so a new buy should be a board that actually lists a PCIe 5.0 PEG slot. That is B850 in 2026, not “wait for B850” and not a B650E-F as the default.
- The rest of the PC: Pair with a six- or eight-core Ryzen 7000/9000, 32GB DDR5, and a 550W+ ATX 3 PSU. X870E and Z890 are 5070 Ti / 5080 boards. Intel is fine if the CPU is already an Ultra on LGA 1851 — use B860, not Z890.
Best Motherboard for GeForce RTX 5060: Detailed Reviews
MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX WiFi View on Amazon
| Socket / chipset | AM5 / B850, ATX |
|---|---|
| GPU slot | PCIe 5.0 x16 (Steel Armor II) |
| Storage | 2× Gen5 M.2 + Gen4 M.2 |
| Network | Wi-Fi 7 + 5G LAN |
| VRM | 14+2+1, 80A SPS, dual 8-pin |
Why it fits the RTX 5060. The 5060 only uses eight lanes. Those lanes need to be Gen5, or you paid for a 5.0 x8 card and got 4.0 x8. MSI lists a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot at 128 GB/s — that is the native path. The 14-phase VRM is for a 9600X or 9700X, not because the GPU draws 145W from the slot (it does not). Dual Gen5 M.2 is extra; the GPU does not need two Gen5 SSDs. Wi-Fi 7 and 5G LAN are why this board costs more than the Eagle, not why the 5060 frames. The old Overall, the Strix B650E-F, was the right idea in early 2025. B850 is the current midrange that ships that PEG without an X-series sticker.
Skip this if the TUF B850-PLUS is $30+ cheaper — same GPU slot. Skip it for an Intel Ultra CPU. Skip it if the case is mATX only.
- Listed PCIe 5.0 x16 for an x8 Blackwell card
- B850 price, not X870E
- EZ PCIe release and BIOS Flashback
- 5G LAN is unused on a 1080p gaming PC
- ~$220 is a lot next to a $300 GPU if a TUF is on sale
ASUS TUF Gaming B850-PLUS WiFi View on Amazon
| Socket / chipset | AM5 / B850, ATX |
|---|---|
| GPU slot | PCIe 5.0 x16 SafeSlot, Q-Release |
| Storage | 1× Gen5 M.2 + 2× Gen4 M.2 |
| Network | Wi-Fi 7 + 2.5G LAN |
| VRM | 14+2+1 80A DrMOS, 8-layer PCB |
Why it fits the RTX 5060. ASUS lists the same PCIe 5.0 x16 path the 5060 needs. One Gen5 M.2 is enough next to an 8GB gaming SSD. 2.5G LAN is the real difference versus the Tomahawk’s 5G — irrelevant for this GPU. Q-Release matters more than 5G when the dual-slot 5060 comes out. If street price is within a few dollars of the Tomahawk, buy the Tomahawk. If the TUF is the sale board, it is still the right chipset class. The previous Value pick, Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX, is the board this page is trying to get you off: Gen4 PEG on an eight-lane GPU.
Skip this if you need four M.2 sockets. That is the Tomahawk MAX. Also skip Strix B850-F money — the TUF already has the GPU slot.
- Gen5 GPU slot without X870E
- BIOS FlashBack and Q-Release
- Often the cheaper of the two 14-phase B850 boards
- 2.5G instead of 5G (only a con if you care)
- One Gen5 M.2, not two
Gigabyte B850 Eagle WIFI6E View on Amazon
| Socket / chipset | AM5 / B850, ATX |
|---|---|
| GPU slot | PCIe 5.0 (EZ-Latch) |
| Storage | 3× M.2 |
| Network | Wi-Fi 6E + Gigabit LAN |
| VRM | 8+2+2 |
Why it fits the RTX 5060. Budget here still means B850 with a Gen5 slot. 8+2+2 is enough for a 65W–105W Ryzen 5 next to a 145W GPU. It is not enough of a reason to drop a 9950X on this board. Wi-Fi 6E and 1G LAN are the cuts. Gigabyte’s five-year board warranty is the part that is better than some pricier names. Do not “save” further by going back to a B650 with a Gen4 x16 slot.
Skip this if you can stretch to the TUF. Also skip it for a 12- or 16-core Ryzen — that CPU wants the Tomahawk VRM, and that CPU is the wrong pair for an 8GB 5060 anyway.
- Keeps PCIe 5.0 on a cheaper B850
- EZ-Latch GPU slot
- Long Gigabyte board warranty
- Wi-Fi 6E and 1G LAN, not Wi-Fi 7 / 5G
- Lighter VRM — Ryzen 5 territory
If You Need Something Else
These two are not cheaper versions of the Top 3. One is the Intel B860 equivalent if the CPU is already an Ultra. One is the X-series board this page used to treat as premium — it is a skip for a 5060.
ASUS TUF Gaming B860-PLUS WiFi View on Amazon
| Socket / chipset | LGA 1851 / B860, ATX |
|---|---|
| GPU slot | PCIe 5.0 x16 SafeSlot |
| CPU | Core Ultra Series 2 |
| Network | Wi-Fi 7 + 2.5G |
AM5 is the default 5060 platform. If the box is already an Ultra on 1851, do not buy a Z890 Strix to feed an 8GB card. The TUF B860-PLUS lists PCIe 5.0 x16, one Gen5 M.2, and Wi-Fi 7 — the same job as the AM5 TUF. Arrow Lake still wants a contact-frame cooler more than it wants a Z-series chipset next to this GPU.
Skip this if you are starting from zero. Buy AM5. Skip Z890-A, which was the old Intel “premium” on this page.
MSI MPG X670E Carbon WiFi View on Amazon
| Chipset | X670E — previous-gen flagship |
|---|---|
| Job | High-core / multi-GPU era AM5 |
| 5060 fit | The GPU slot is fine; the price is not |
X670E Carbon is a real PCIe 5.0 board. It is also a $400+ platform for a 145W, 8GB, 1080p card. USB4 and dual Gen5 M.2 do not raise 1080p frame rates. If you already own it, keep it. Do not buy one to “future-proof” a 5060. The same skip applies to X870E and Z890 Strix boards.
Skip this if the GPU is an RTX 5060. That is the entire point of this row.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same board list as the RTX 5060 Ti?
The bus is the same PCIe 5.0 x8 GB206 link. The 5060 is 8GB-only and 145W; the Ti has 8GB and 16GB SKUs at 180W. Stay on B850 either way. Do not buy X870E because the Ti exists, and do not use this 8GB 5060 as a 1440p default.
Will the 5060 work in a PCIe 4.0 x16 B650 slot?
Yes. It will train to 4.0 x8. TechPowerUp’s same-bus 5060 Ti test averaged about 2% less 1080p raster on 4.0 x8. The 8GB card is the reason to still prefer a listed Gen5 PEG on a new board, not a reason to throw out a working B650.
Do I still need to wait for B850?
No. That was the April 2026 question on the old version of this page. B850 is the current AM5 midrange. Buy one with a PCIe 5.0 GPU slot.
What PSU does the 5060 want?
NVIDIA’s floor is 550W, measured on a Ryzen 9 9950X config. A 7600/9600X + 145W GPU is happier on a quality 650W ATX 3 unit than on a 550W bargain. One 8-pin (or a 12V-2×6 adapter) is typical; check the specific card.
Final Verdict
For most GeForce RTX 5060 builds, buy the MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX WiFi. If the TUF B850-PLUS is clearly cheaper, it is the same GPU-slot class. Need to keep B850 without Wi-Fi 7? That is the Eagle. Do not buy a Gen4 B650 to “save” on an eight-lane card, and do not buy X870E or Z890 because the GPU says Blackwell. This is the 8GB 5060, not the 16GB 5060 Ti.
