It does not need the AD-E1, and it does not occupy the 3.5 mm jack, so a headphone can stay in the headphone terminal. The microphone\u2019s own spec is 16-bit. The camera page separately says 24-bit\/4-channel recording is possible, with 2 channels reserved in that sentence for the built-in mic. Those are two published lines, not one bit depth. Body plus this microphone is 370 g + 136 g = 506 g before a lens. Canon\u2019s 1 kg cap still has to cover the lens. A MENU button on the mic opens settings on the camera screen.
