Fujifilm’s FAQ says a 3.5 mm microphone plug needs a 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm conversion plug. The hot shoe supports TTL flash and sync to 1/180 s. It does not replace that jack.

Why plug-in power stops at 2 V

The movie chapter says to use a plug-in-power microphone with an operating voltage of 2 V or less. The MKE 200 specification requires 2–10 V. Fujifilm names that microphone in the FAQ. The shared number is 2 V. A microphone whose datasheet starts above 2 V is outside the camera sentence.

Why the microphone goes in with the camera off

The 2.5 mm jack is also the remote release. Fujifilm says that on bodies which share the two, connecting a powered microphone while the camera is on can release the shutter. The menu item is MIC/REMOTE RELEASE, set to MIC. MIC JACK SETTING then chooses MIC or LINE.

Where the headphones connect

Fujifilm’s specifications say the USB connector is converted to a headphone jack with the supplied adapter. There is no separate headphone socket on the body. The MKE 400 adds a 3.5 mm headphone output on the microphone itself. The VideoMic NTG’s USB-C port is a digital output for a computer, not a feed into this camera.

What the camera records from that jack

Movie audio in the specifications is LPCM, two channels, 24-bit, 48 kHz. AAC is listed for MP4 recordings. The file is two channels. An external microphone does not turn this body into a four-channel recorder.

Final Verdict

      🏆 Best Overall:

RØDE VideoMic NTG – own battery, 94 g, 30+ hours, 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm plug.

      Buy Now

      💎 Best Value:

Sennheiser MKE 400 – 93.5 g, 2× AAA, headphone jack on the mic, 132 dB SPL.

      Buy Now

      💰 Budget Pick:

Sennheiser MKE 200 – 48 g, the plug-in mic Fujifilm names, 2 V at both limits.

      Buy Now

The RØDE VideoMic NTG is the microphone that brings a 350 mAh battery and does not list plug-in power, at 94 g, with the 3.5 mm output stepped down to this camera’s 2.5 mm jack.
