The Q3 43 is the same 60.3 MP body as the 28 mm Q3 — same cell, one UHS-II slot, extra shoe contacts — under a shorter compact hood. The APO-Summicron 43 is an E49 thread. A normal 49 mm ring, including Leica’s own UVa II Slim, will not live under that hood once you…
The Leica Q3 has no pop-up. The shoe has extra contacts for Leica units. The instruction book names the conversation: TTL is available with Leica system flashes like the SF 40, or Profoto. A center-pin gun will fire; the camera will not drive it. The electronic shutter will not fire a flash at all. The…
The Leica Q3 writes ~70 MB DNGs into an 8 GB buffer and will record 8K at 300 Mbps — then 4K / C4K All-Intra at 600 Mbps. That last number is 75 MB/s. V60’s floor is 60. V90’s floor is 90. Leica’s sheet says UHS-II recommended, UHS-I also listed. Independent reviews lock the 8K…
Carrying your Leica Q3 with the flimsy, scratch-prone stock neck strap often feels like an afterthought for such a precision-engineered tool. After spending three months in the field testing various mounting systems, it became clear that the right strap needs to balance the camera’s signature minimalist aesthetic with the security required for street photography. My…
The Leica Q3 is a masterpiece of minimalist design, yet its stock strap often feels like an afterthought, failing to provide the security or aesthetic harmony such a premium camera deserves. You want a carry solution that balances the Q3’s compact footprint with the comfort required for long street-photography sessions, without masking that iconic red…
Owning a Leica Q3 means you are committed to the 28mm Summilux prime, but the fixed-lens nature of the camera often leaves photographers feeling creatively constrained when the scene demands more reach or character. Through three months of rigorous field testing, I have analyzed how various M-mount optics and supplementary glass perform when adapted to…
The Leica Q3 is a masterpiece of minimalist design, but its sleek, slippery finish often leaves photographers feeling like they’re one minor slip away from a costly repair. Finding a half case that offers protection without sacrificing the camera’s iconic tactile feel is a common frustration for owners. Over the last three months, I have…
Owning a Leica Q3 means dealing with a beautiful, high-resolution 60MP beast that drains its BP-SCL6 battery surprisingly fast, especially if you are leaning heavily on the EVF and phase-detection autofocus. There is nothing more frustrating than a “Battery Exhausted” message mid-shoot when you are miles from a power outlet. Over the last four months,…
Owning a Leica Q3 means carrying $6,000 of German engineering in your hand, and while its IP52 rating offers some peace of mind, it is far from “waterproof” when a sudden downpour hits during a street session. I’ve spent the last three months testing twelve different protection systems in conditions ranging from Pacific Northwest mist…
