Best Memory Card for Canon EOS C50
The EOS C50 keeps anything above 600 Mbps on its CFexpress 2.0 Type B slot, and Cinema RAW Light HQ runs at 2420 Mbps. That rate needs a VPG400 card, and Canon’s runtime table is built on 512GB. The Lexar Professional CFexpress 2.0 Type B DIAMOND 512GB is that card. Check Lexar Professional CFexpress 2.0 Type B DIAMOND 512GB on Amazon.

How We Picked
Three sourced facts: the C50 slot split and 600 Mbps cutoff, the RAW bitrates Canon timed on a 512GB card, and the media Canon marked compatible.
- Above 600 Mbps is CFexpress only. Canon Europe, EOS C50 specifications: one CFexpress 2.0 Type B slot and one SD slot (SD, SDHC, or SDXC). Recording above 600 Mbps is available only on CFexpress.
- HQ RAW is 2420 Mbps, timed on 512GB. The same Canon specifications: 12-bit Cinema RAW Light HQ, full frame 6960×3672 at 25p, is 2420 Mbps, about 26 minutes on a 512GB card. 2420 Mbps is 302.5 MB/s. VPG400 is a 400 MB/s minimum sustained write. Open-gate LT at 6960×4640 is 976 Mbps (about 65 minutes on 512GB); open-gate ST is 1510 Mbps (about 42 minutes).
- Canon’s list names this Lexar 512GB and a SanDisk 128GB V90. Canon USA, 18 September 2025: Lexar LCXEXDM512G-RNENG, 512GB, VPG400, and SanDisk SDSDXDK-128G-JNJIP, 128GB, V90. Lexar’s DIAMOND 2.0 specifications publish up to 1900 MB/s read, 1700 MB/s write, 1600 MB/s sustained write, and VPG400 for that 512GB card.

Lexar Professional CFexpress 2.0 Type B DIAMOND 512GB View on Amazon View on B&H
| Form factor | CFexpress 2.0 Type B (PCIe 3.0 x2) |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 512GB |
| Read / write | Up to 1900 MB/s read, 1700 MB/s write |
| Sustained write | 1600 MB/s; VPG400 (400 MB/s minimum) |
| Model | LCXEXDM512G-RNENG |
Why it fits the EOS C50. The body’s CFexpress slot is the 2.0 Type B spec, and this card is that spec at 512GB. Cinema RAW Light HQ at 2420 Mbps needs 302.5 MB/s of sustained write. VPG400 holds a 400 MB/s floor, and Lexar’s published sustained write on this card is 1600 MB/s. Canon’s minute counts — about 26 minutes of HQ, 42 minutes of open-gate ST, 65 minutes of open-gate LT — are calculated on a 512GB card, which is this capacity. Canon’s 18 September 2025 compatibility note lists LCXEXDM512G-RNENG as confirmed.
Buy it when the reel is Cinema RAW Light, open-gate XF-HEVC S Intra at 1350 Mbps, or any other mode above 600 Mbps. Leave it when the day is proxy and 4K at or below 600 Mbps; the SD card covers that job.

SanDisk Extreme PRO CFexpress 4.0 Type B 256GB View on Amazon View on B&H
| Form factor | CFexpress 4.0 Type B |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 256GB |
| Read / write | Up to 3700 MB/s read, 3500 MB/s write |
| Sustained write | 900 MB/s minimum on 128GB–400GB; VPG400 and VPG800 |
| Model | SDCFEB-256G-GN4NN |
Why it fits the EOS C50. SanDisk rates the 128GB–400GB Extreme PRO CFexpress 4.0 Type B cards at VPG400 and VPG800, with a 900 MB/s minimum sustained write. VPG400’s 400 MB/s floor clears the 302.5 MB/s HQ RAW needs. The C50 slot is CFexpress 2.0 Type B. The CompactFlash Association’s 4.0 specification keeps the Type B shape and backward compatibility with 2.0 hosts, so the card mounts, and in-camera speed stays on the 2.0 bus. The 3700 MB/s read figure is the card’s rating in a CFexpress 4.0 reader. 256GB is half of 512GB, so the minutes on Canon’s table run about half as long.
Buy it as the smaller RAW card, or as the spare Type B when the 512GB DIAMOND is already in the slot. Leave it when the shoot needs the full 512GB minute counts.

SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II 128GB View on Amazon View on B&H
| Form factor | SDXC, UHS-II |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 128GB |
| Read / write | Up to 300 MB/s read, up to 260 MB/s write |
| Video class | V90 (90 MB/s minimum sustained write) |
| Model on Canon’s list | SDSDXDK-128G-JNJIP |
Why it fits the EOS C50. The second slot is SD. Canon confirmed SanDisk SDSDXDK-128G-JNJIP, a 128GB V90 card. SanDisk’s Extreme PRO UHS-II page for that SDSDXDK line lists up to 300 MB/s read and 260 MB/s write. V90’s 90 MB/s floor is 720 Mbps, which sits above Canon’s 600 Mbps SD ceiling (75 MB/s). XF-AVC 4K at 500 Mbps is 62.5 MB/s, inside that floor. Proxy recording in XF-AVC, XF-AVC S, and XF-HEVC S is 35 Mbps and below. Photo mode (RAW, C-RAW, Dual Pixel RAW, HEIF, JPEG) also lands on either card.
Buy it for the SD slot beside a CFexpress card. Leave it when the recording is Cinema RAW Light or any mode above 600 Mbps. Relay recording is off during RAW, so a full CFexpress card does not spill RAW onto this SD.

If You Need Something Else
A 512GB card matches Canon’s published minute table. A longer HQ day needs more capacity in the same Type B slot.
SanDisk Extreme PRO CFexpress 4.0 Type B 1TB View on Amazon View on B&H
| Form factor | CFexpress 4.0 Type B |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 1TB |
| Read / write | Up to 3700 MB/s read, 3500 MB/s write |
| Sustained write | 1950 MB/s minimum; VPG1600 on 1TB–4TB |
| Model | SDCFEB-1T00-GN4NN |
SanDisk’s 1TB Extreme PRO CFexpress 4.0 Type B card is about twice the 512GB capacity behind Canon’s runtime notes, so HQ, ST, and LT minutes scale with that extra space. The published floor on this capacity is VPG1600 and a 1950 MB/s minimum sustained write. The C50 slot remains CFexpress 2.0, so those peaks show up in a 4.0 reader. This SKU is absent from Canon’s 18 September 2025 compatibility list. Use it when 26 minutes of HQ on 512GB is short for the day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why modes above 600 Mbps stay on CFexpress
Canon’s EOS C50 specification limits recording above 600 Mbps to the CFexpress 2.0 Type B slot. Cinema RAW Light HQ at 2420 Mbps, open-gate ST at 1510 Mbps, open-gate LT at 976 Mbps, and XF-HEVC S open-gate Intra at 1350 Mbps all sit above that line.
Whether a V90 SD card records 7K Cinema RAW Light
It does not. V90 guarantees 90 MB/s (720 Mbps). Canon still blocks anything above 600 Mbps from the SD slot, and 7K Cinema RAW Light starts at 773 Mbps for full-frame 25p LT and climbs to 2420 Mbps for HQ. The V90 card is for the SD slot: proxies, stills, and video at or below 600 Mbps.
Why VPG400 matters more than a 3700 MB/s read rating
HQ RAW needs 302.5 MB/s of sustained write. VPG400 is a 400 MB/s minimum. A 3700 MB/s read number is the card’s peak in a CFexpress 4.0 reader. The C50’s slot is CFexpress 2.0, so the in-camera limit is that bus, and the VPG floor is the figure that has to clear 302.5 MB/s.
What simultaneous recording and relay recording allow
Canon enables double-slot simultaneous recording and recording in more than one format at once. Proxy recording is available in XF-AVC, XF-AVC S, and XF-HEVC S, depending on the main format, and is unavailable in slow-and-fast mode above 60 fps. Relay recording is unavailable during RAW, so a full CFexpress card does not continue a RAW clip onto the SD card.
Whether a CFexpress 4.0 Type B card fits the C50
The CompactFlash Association’s CFexpress 4.0 specification keeps the Type B form factor and backward compatibility with CFexpress 2.0 hosts. A 4.0 Type B card mounts in the C50’s 2.0 slot and records at 2.0 bus speed. The DIAMOND 512GB is already a 2.0 card, which is why it is the default for this body.
