Best ND Filters for Fujifilm X100VI (2026): Built-in 4-Stop + 49mm
The Fujifilm X100VI already has a four-stop ND built into the 23mm f/2 lens. Fujifilm says so on the camera page. Four stops is enough for a lot of stills at f/2. It is not a variable, and it is not enough for 6.2K / 4K at 1/48 with the aperture wide open in hard sun. The lens has no native filter thread. The 2026 first external buy is the NiSi True Color ND-VARIO 1–5 Stop in 49 mm, on Fujifilm’s AR-X100 adapter (or PolarPro’s 49 mm X100 ring).

How We Picked
Three official facts decide the glass. Everything else is a pairing.
- Built-in 4-stop ND is official. Fujifilm documents a four-stop ND in the 23mm f/2 lens for stills and video. It is on/off, not a variable wheel. (Fujifilm X100VI — Built-in ND Filter)
- No native thread; AR-X100 is 49 mm. The optional AR-X100 adapter takes 49 mm filters and the PRF-49 protector (and is part of the weather-sealing kit). PolarPro also sells a 49 mm X100 adapter. (Fujifilm accessories: AR-X100)
- 40MP, ISO 125, 6.2K, IBIS 6 stops. Stills ISO 125–12800 (64–51200 expanded). Movie shutter on 6.2K/4K down to 1/24. Electronic stills shutter to 1/180000. IBIS holds a long still; it does not replace ND for 180° video. (Fujifilm X100VI specifications)

The X100VI is not an empty filter mount. The built-in 4-stop ND is real. NiSi 49 mm is what you add when four stops and f/2 still clip 6.2K.
Fujifilm’s X100VI page: “Ideal for stills and video use, X100VI has a four-stop ND filter built into the lens.” The same page sells the AR-X100 adapter ring so 49 mm filters and the PRF-49 protector can go on. Official stills ISO starts at 125 (64–51200 expanded). Movie ISO 125–12800. Mechanical shutter to 1/4000; electronic to 1/180000. 6.2K video shutter 1/4000 to 1/24. IBIS is rated 6.0 stops. None of that is an 82 mm GM problem.
Sunny-16 at ISO 125, f/2, 1/48 is roughly seven stops of ND. The built-in four leaves about three. A 1–5 variable covers that remainder without stacking the internal ND and a 6–9 (which goes too far). Turn the internal ND off when the NiSi is on if the math is already there — do not assume both should always be stacked.
PolarPro Edition II does not ship in 49 mm. That is why NiSi is Overall on this body and PolarPro is the adapter / Everyday filter in Layer 2, not the first VND. Film simulations on a 40MP X-Trans sensor are why True Color matters more here than on a vlog APS-C.
- 49 mm matches AR-X100 / PolarPro X100 adapter — the actual thread
- 1–5 fills the gap after the built-in 4-stop ND
- True Color next to Reala Ace / Classic Chrome
- Requires AR-X100 or PolarPro 49 mm adapter — the lens has no thread alone
- Stacking this on top of the internal 4-stop ND in shade is too much

A 49 mm True Color ND2–32 when NiSi’s SWIFT price is the blocker. Still needs AR-X100.
KF01.2153 is K&F’s 49 mm True Color ND2–32. It is the Value pick because the X100VI cannot use the 67 / 82 mm Nano-X SKUs from the Sony articles without a ridiculous step-up on a 23 mm f/2. The 2-stop floor is a bit high in open shade if the internal ND is also on — turn the built-in ND off first.
- Real 49 mm SKU
- True Color coating at a lower price
- 2-stop minimum vs NiSi’s 1-stop floor
- Still needs the adapter ring

| Mount | AR-X100 49 mm |
| Best for | Stills at f/2 before buying a VND |
The cheapest correct ND on an X100VI is already in the lens. AR-X100 is the official 49 mm ring for a protector and a future VND.
If the job is stills at f/2 in sun, or video at f/2.8–f/4, Fujifilm’s four-stop ND is the Budget pick. AR-X100 is still worth buying: it restores weather sealing with the PRF-49, and it is the mount for NiSi / K&F later. PolarPro’s brass 49 mm X100 adapter is the alternative if the bag is already PolarPro. Neither adapter is an ND by itself.
- Uses the official 4-stop ND — zero extra glass in the optical path
- AR-X100 is the correct 49 mm mount, not a clamp
- Not variable — 4 stops or zero
- Not enough for wide-open 6.2K / 4K at 1/48 in hard sun

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the X100VI already have an ND filter?
Yes. Fujifilm specifies a four-stop ND built into the 23mm f/2 lens. It is on or off. External 49 mm glass is for variable control or more than four stops.
Why buy a 49 mm VND at all?
Four stops at f/2 and 1/48 in hard sun is often short for 6.2K / 4K. A 1–5 variable covers the remainder. Long stills beyond four stops are the other reason.
Can PolarPro Edition II 82 mm be stepped down?
Do not. The front element and hood on a 23 mm f/2 compact are not an 82 mm GM problem. Buy 49 mm on AR-X100.
Should the built-in ND stay on with a VND?
Only if the histogram still needs it. Four plus five is nine stops — too much for ISO 125 video. Default: internal off, VND on, or internal on and no VND.
Is AR-X100 required?
For screw-in 49 mm filters, yes (or PolarPro’s 49 mm X100 adapter). The naked lens has no thread.
Will an X100V 49 mm NiSi fit?
Yes. AR-X100 and 49 mm filters are shared across X100V / X100VI. The VI-specific facts are IBIS, 40MP, and 6.2K — not a new thread.
Final Verdict
The X100VI already has a four-stop ND. The first extra glass is a 49 mm variable on AR-X100, not an 82 mm Sony. Start with NiSi True Color 1–5 49 mm when f/2 video runs out of four stops. Use K&F KF01.2153 as the cheaper 49 mm. Use the built-in ND + AR-X100 until that day comes. Do not stack nine stops by default.
