According to latest rumors from CR, Canon currently is developing a new 24-70mm standard zoom lens with Image Stabilization feature. This new lens will be EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM lens.
When Canon released the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens in 2012, there also rumored an IS version coming, but Canon didn’t released the f/2.8 version, instead the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM lens got released. So talk of EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM is over.
While Nikon is rumored to announced their IS verison lens: AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 PF VR Lens, it seems unlikely Canon would leave such a lens out of their lineup, a lineup they’re very proud of.
Besides, there are two lens patents (Patent 1 | Patent 2) talked about this new IS version 24-70mm f/2.8L lens.
The price of this new IS lens will be more expensive than EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, and will not replace EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM.
