I just ordered a Nikon D5200 body with a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.8d lens. I am a beginner to photography and i wanted to learn, which is why i thought i should try my hands on manual focusing first. Was this a bad choice ?

terrible choice mate. really terrible. worse choice you could have possibly made. way to burn your money.

Im using Nikkor 50mm 1.8d (aka NIFTY FIFTY) on D5200 and getting excellent results (GREAT PICTURES). so don’t listen to these WHIIINNNERRS. BUT BE WARNED THE NIKKOR 50MM F/1.8D “WONT AUTOFOCUS” ON NIKON D5200. If AUTOFOCUS is the deal-breaker, you can go with Nikon 50mm f/1.8 G which will autofocus on the D5200.

    Goodluck on your pick…
